(only P.O.D. championship meet isn’t scheduled yet)*Most XC meets start at 4, who runs 1st at each meet is up to each school and they DON’T tell us ahead of time. We run the BOYS 1st here at our LDMS XC meets. That way you can plan your work exit strategy! *We will let you know if practice or a meet is cancelled. (We are implementing “Remind 101” system to keep in touch by text and email. You MUST “OPT IN” to it, we can’t do it for you.) Time OUT! If anyone hasn’t opted in yet, we are going to download the app and set up our cell phones NOW with remind 101 app! If your spouse is not here; you can do spouse phones and email addresses at home. (For Text: Enter number 81010 Test this message @kc8hd7) (For Email: Don’t have a mobile phone? Go to rmd.at/kc8hd7 on a desktop computer to sign up for email notifications Coach Masorti set this up so she will be sending out alerts. *We will announce to kids on loudspeaker system at the beginning of 11th period on the days we are forced to cancel practice, but they complain they don’t always hear them. It is best if they also sign up, so they can stay on top of all announcements.5. Parent Support*Athlete /Parent Contact and Information Sheets needed to be completed for us to stay in touch. Boosters will pass out sheets to parents who haven’t turned them in. If penmanship was sloppy, you may be missing announcements.? XC helps facilitate athlete independence, self-discipline and taking responsibility for themselves. Please help them.? Parent Photographers- Feel free to share photos for end of season compilation. The Booster Club has set up a Shutterfly account to share photos and messages, please feel free to use that system. Booster President Deb Blessing runs our site ldmscrosscountryandtrackfield@ Get involved with LD XC & Track Booster Club when opportunity arises; try to do just 1 thing. (Boosters will share in a few minutes) **Parent help at meets (Collect Finish Line Cards & Record Names)Feel free to bring a snack or Ice pops, etc. to meet to share with kids! We will have sign-ups for thatSchool Photographer will be taking XC Pictures for purchase on Picture Day, it is voluntary as far as purchase6. Dealing with the Athlete? Equipment-Proper training shoes (15% discount at Inside Track store by Weis/Walmart complex) are a must -Have inclement weather clothes packed daily just in case. Bring spare shoes and socks to meets in case of wetness while walking course. Gloves and hat are essential when weather turns colder. (Inhalers, epi pens)-Spikes are optional, but give a considerable edge to those who have them! I can lend a few pairs out and they must be returned at end of season. Spikes can be purchased at the Inside Track at a discount of 15%...hurry before they disappear. XC Distance spikes can also be used for track season. XC Distance spikes are more flexible than Track Distance spikes. It is better to buy XC distance spikes and use for track season, than vice versa due to how they are constructed.? Training Philosophy: Hard-Easy-Hard days during the week, variety of progressively harder workouts throughout the season. Try to run an easy, but longer run on Saturdays and try to rest on Sunday’s. Core & strength workouts are vital to longevity and injury prevention. You don’t get faster running slow, so “Hard Days” are designed to build up our Speed Endurance and “Easy Days” are for recovery, no one can run hard days back to back to back and avoid injury. Slushies!? Injuries & LD’s School’s on-site mobile trainers Ashley Moss & Kate Gilbert are on site/roving trainers? Nutrition and sleep…eat good food, drink plenty of water (water bottle at school) and get a good night’s sleep every night. Some kids bring a snack for right after school now that the school lunches don’t keep us satisfied as long as they used to! Power Bar, Cliff Bar, fruit, etc. all make great Power Snacks! Take a few sips every time you pass a fountain.? Race performances: I will place all times on spreadsheet after each meet so you can track improvements.7. Awards Pizza Party for Runners: **Tuesday, Oct. 29nd at 2:45 PM in the MS café (bus or parent pick up)**This is subject to change based on actual date of P.O.D.
