Goal I. To understand the nature of stuttering and the factors that maintain and perpetuate the problem.Client will assign a weekly rating of 1-10 (1=severe stuttering, 10= best hopes for speech) and identify reasons behind the rating in 3 out of 4 sessions. Client will identify his stuttering “fingerprint” (core behaviors and secondary behaviors) over the course of the semester. Client will identify terms related to stuttering therapy and speech anatomy over the course of the semester. Client will identify 3 roadblocks to progress in his/her speech work and develop ways to conquer them over the course of the semester. Client will develop and complete his/her own assignment and challenges based on his understanding of the nature of stuttering in 3 out of 4 assignments. (ensure home assignments address all of the major goals below). Goal II. To reduce struggle behaviors associated with stuttering A. Client will use no more than (insert number based on baseline data) struggle behaviors (eye blinks, lip tension, etc.) across a variety of language tasks (i.e. rote language, picture description, retelling familiar sequence, oral discourse, reading, etc). B. Client will monitor struggle behaviors with 75%-80% accuracy. Goal III. To modify the moment of stuttering to achieve a more comfortable, forward-moving way of speaking. Client will use easy onsets and light articulatory contact to initiate sentences AKA prolonged speech (“turtle talk”) in 3 out of 4 opportunities across a variety of language tasks. Client will use cancellations/pull-outs/prep sets to modify instances of stuttering in 3 out of 4 opportunities across a variety of language tasks. Goal IV. To reduce negative feelings and attitudes associated with stuttering Client will use “easy bounces” to weaken his/her stuttering pattern and decrease sensitivity to stuttering with 2 or less reminders across a variety of language tasks. Client will use voluntary stuttering with 2 or less reminders across a variety of language tasks. Client will partake in assignments that advertise or take on the role of a person who stutters. Goal V. To improve general oral communication skills. Client will use pausing and phrasing for 2-5 minutes with 2 or less reminders across a variety of language tasks. ................
