Testlet FAQWhat are Testlets?TABE Testlets are short, optional tests and will serve students well as practice for Common Core State Standards high school equivalency assessments. TABE Testlet items and assessments were built form the ground up with new, innovative item types that fully align to the Common Core State Standards.TABE Testlet items are being field tested right now, so they do not have NRS approval and cannot be used for funding purposes.When will Testlets be available?The Testlet release date is in early October, 2014.How long does a Testlet take?TABE Testlets take around 45 minutes each.How much do Testlets cost?TABE Testlets are free of charge and are included with TABE Online (Windows operating systems). Once they are released, they will show up in your account. Who can use Testlets?TABE Testlets are available to any student who has taken a TABE Online assessment TABE Testlets will be available based on the student’s current TABE level. TABE Testlets will only be offered at or below a student’s current TABE level – for example, a TABE Level M student will not see a TABE Level A Testlet, but he or she may see either a Level M or a Level E Testlet. How can I get Testlets?TABE Testlets run on the same system as TABE Online so you will be able to access them in your current TABE Online account and they’ll be visible within the new User Interface (UI) coming this summer. Although you don’t need to do anything to acquire Testlets in your account, you will need to use the new UI. More information on the new UI can be accessed here. For example, one of the Level E Applied Math Testlets will be shared with Level M so we can better understand the impact of Common Core on learners and their traditional grade levels, plus it will also help us create a fair and accurate scale. Note that we'll never have, for example, a Level E student take a Level M Testlet - it would only ever be the opposite, where a Level M student could see a Level E Testlet.Can a student go back in on a different day and access Testlets? Or does it have to be back-to-back with a TABE?? Students may go back to them. ?It is true that TABE tests need to be taken prior to Testlets, but they are subject-by-subject so you don't have to take an entire suite (all subjects)?of TABE. ?We prefer students to take their first Testlets within 2 weeks of their TABE test as it helps our field test efforts, but we will not enforce it since we know that adult learners have very different schedules than K-12 students! ?What about the quality of Testlet questions?The TABE family has evolved over nearly 50 years! Testlets should always be treated as though they were a high stakes assessment in order to get the full benefit of the experience.Insight! Testlets will help you understand how students are performing against Common Core and College/Career Readiness standards.Note that TABE Testlets are not NRS-approved and may not be used to replace TABE 9/10 assessments.? What will Testlet reports show me?Testlet reports will be available on a student basis. Since Common Core Standards may consist of more than one activity, some items will be worth more than one point. Testlet scores will therefore consist of a “points correct” score for each student at the domain level, so adult educators will get good insight into a range of Common Core State Standard areas.
