It is important that your child can read most words in the books easily and is able to talk to you accurately about what they have read. When your child comes across an unfamiliar word encourage them to use a range of strategies such as phonics, breaking the word into chunks, looking at the pictures, thinking about what would make sense, reading on in the rest of the sentence.Practise reading the First 100 High Frequency Words. These are in your child’s Reading Record.295973515367000Spelling – 5 minutes dailyAsk your child to practise writing 3 of the Y1 Common Exception Words that they do not know how to spell. Ask them to write each word 3 times, using the look-say-cover-write-check method. If they are confident with spelling the word after a few days ask them to write it into a sentence, with capital letter and full stop. If your child can spell all 45 of these words, they can learn to spell the days of the week, months of the year and writing the numbers 0-20 as words e.g. one, two, three, four, five…Phonics – 15 minutes dailyThis first link is the most important for practising phonics with your child. also see phonic snakes & ladders boards that have been added on to the Y1 learning on our website and select the board for your child’s confidence level. Most children will be working on set 2 and set 3 sounds but start where they are most confident. Remember the phonemes that they need to learn are in the middle of your child’s Reading Record.Writing - -2 Purple Mash writing activities will be set each week.Maths - 30 minutes daily-Purple Mash activities will be set most days-Visit the Top Marks website ( marks.co.uk ) once a week-Complete a Maths Frenzy (see the Y1 home learning on the website for the blank maths frenzy sheets) once a weekScience –-2 Purple Mash science activities will be set each week with the focus on plants.History – this activity can take as long or as little as you like depending upon your child’s interest-Create a time capsule. Explain that what is happening in the world at the moment is going to become an important part of history that they will look back on in years to come. Find an old box or container to decorate as their time capsule. Ask your child what they might like to put in the time capsule? Some suggestions: -a newspaper or front page of one -a favourite recipe -a list of their favourite toys-a note with the date, their name and a picture of themselves and their family-a list of things they have been doing whilst in lockdown -a piece of artwork-their handprint or drawing round their hand and maybe the rest of their family’s tooGeography – -1 Purple Mash geography activity will be set each week with a focus on the UK map.Other fun ideas you might like to choose from – Remember to keep active every day for 30 minutes minimum, whether this is a walk, the trampoline, a Joe Wicks workout or Andy’s Wild Workouts on CBeebies…Cook togetherGo on a virtual museum tour Garden – plant some seeds for the springExplore a virtual tour of Yellowstone Park or San Diego zoo amongst other places… some practical art & craft activities that interest your child – papier-mache, salt dough models, painting, drawing, mindful colouringExplore these Lego Challenges (see below) If they complete these can they create their own list of challenges?right24003000 ................
