Predictive Services Discussion:

Hot, dry, and unstable conditions will continue across the Florida Peninsula today with high-risk significant fire potential. Sea breezes in the afternoon gusting to 30 mph will create added concerns as well. Fire weather conditions are expected to modify across Florida into early next week with higher relative humidity and scattered thunderstorms bringing rainfall by mid-next week. However, fuels are likely to remain dry, with low to moderate significant fire potential to continue, and new ignitions from lightning are possible as well. To the north, widespread rainfall is forecast across the Southeast into Saturday, with more rain possible mid-next week.

Breezy winds are forecast across portions of the southern and central High Plains today. Improving conditions are forecast this weekend into early next week due to higher relative humidity and lighter winds, but elevated to critical fire weather conditions are forecast to return mid-next week along with increasing significant fire potential. Much of Virginia into New England is forecast to remain dry for the next week, with significant fire potential will remain low to moderate across Virginia, and significant fire potential increasing for the rest of the Mid-Atlantic and southern New England.

Periods of light to moderate precipitation are forecast for the northern half of the West, briefly interrupted by a dry and warm spell Sunday into Monday. Southern California, the southern Great Basin, and Southwest are forecast to remain dry into mid-next week, with breezy to windy conditions likely for the southern Great Basin and Southwest mid-next week. Light precipitation may return to California late next week as well.
