Hoopla for your Online Movie and Music interests

Hoopla is a digital media platform offering full length feature movies, television episodes and music albums. You can access digital content from tablets, smartphones and/or through web browsers on a computer.

First time using Hoopla? You will need to register with your Toronto Public Library card and an email address.

1. Click on Sign up

2. Follow the 4 simple steps to set up your Hoopla account.

Step 1 (Overview) Read the information about Hoopla.

Step 2 (Choose Library) Select Toronto Public Library.

Step 3 (Library Card) Enter Toronto Public Library card number. Enter pin number or last four numbers of your phone number.

Step 4 (Credentials) Enter email address. Create password.

Finding and Borrowing Content on Hoopla

1. Click on Browse.

2. Select desired type of media i.e. Movies, Music or Television.

Content is arranged in various collections including by genre for quick browsing. Scroll over any collection and use the side arrows to browse. Alternatively, use the Search option.

3. Click on desired movie, television episode or album.

4. Click Borrow. The title will be added to My Titles.

5. Scroll over My Titles and click Borrowed. Here will be a listing of all borrowed titles.

6. Select borrowed title. Click on Play to view.

Note: The first time you play a piece of content through your web browser, you will be prompted to download and install a free plug-in called “Widevine”. If you are not prompted, go to download/videooptimizer/index.html to download the Widevine plugin.

Movies, television episodes can be borrowed for 3 days. Music albums can be borrowed for 7 days. All borrowed items will be returned automatically. You will be allowed to borrow up to 5 titles each calendar month. Borrowing limits reset on the first of each calendar month.

Hoopla Mobile App on your mobile devices

Hoopla’s digital content is available directly on a wide array of mobile devices. You will need to download the hoopla app from your device’s app store. Or use the browser on your mobile device, go to , and follow the link for the app. Please note that a network connection is required to download and use the mobile app. Data and message rates may apply.

Tip: Content can be viewed offline using the Temporary Download feature. Click on the cloud icon to temporary download the title into the app so that it may be viewed without internet connection.

Zinio for your Online Magazine interests

Zinio gives you access to current digital issues of popular magazines including Rolling Stone, National Geographic, Cosmopolitan and many more. You can read Zinio digital magazines on your computer, tablet or smartphone.

First time using Zinio? You will need to create two accounts

1) Toronto Public Library Zinio account to check out e-magazines free and

2) account to view the checked out magazines.

Creating Toronto Public Library Zinio account

1. Go to tpl.ca, click on Downloads & eBooks and select Zinio

Note: You can click on Video Tutorial for a video demonstration on using Zinio.

2. Click Access Online.

3. Click Create New Account.

4. Enter your Toronto Public Library card number.

5. Enter your name, email address and password and click Create Account.

Creating account

1. Go to

2. Click on Sign Up

3. Enter first name, last name, email address and password.

Note: enter the same email address used for the Toronto Public Library Zinio account.

4. Uncheck the box for Send me magazine discounts and Zinio news.

5. Click Sign Up.

Finding and Checking Out eMagazines

1. Go to tpl.ca, click on Downloads & eBooks and select Zinio. Or go to tpl.ca/zinio.

2. To find e-magazines, you can use the search by title using the Title search box or use the drop down All Genres menu to browse by genre.

3. Select a magazine.

4. Click Checkout. If you are not already signed in, you will be prompted to sign in into your Toronto Public Library Zinio account.

5. You have successfully checked out the title. The title will now be saved in your account. Click Start Reading. A new window will open. If you are not already signed into your account, you will be prompted to sign in.

6. Click on the magazine cover to launch the reader in your browser.

Deleting Online Magazines from Your Reading List

Magazine issues will remain in Your Reading List on your account until you delete them. You do not need to return e-magazines.

1. Click Your Library.

2. Click Edit your reading list. X marks will appear over magazine covers.

3. Click on the X mark to delete.

Zinio App for your mobile devices

Zinio digital magazines are available for reading on your mobile device. You will need to download the Zinio app by searching for “Zinio” in your device’s app store. Or use the web browser on your mobile device, go to apps, and download the mobile Zinio app.

Note: All checked out magazines will appear automatically in the app. The app is only for viewing checked out magazines. To check out new magazines, you must always go to tpl.ca/zinio using your device’s web browser and follow the steps above.
