Career Access: Michelle Thomassian, Career Access Manager:

• Last week, I met with Tony McLean, Market President of CHI Franciscan’s South King Region to discuss our partnership with Highline Medical Center.  Tony mentioned he would eventually like for 10% of Highline Public Schools’ high school students to have access to career exploration at the facility.  After our meeting, I reviewed some data and was pleased to find that Highline Medical Center has already met that goal through our four major campuses since the partnership began!  Highline Medical Center is both a model for career access work and a champion of Highline Public Schools, and we are so grateful to have them as a partner.

• SNAP! (Speed Networking to Achieve Professionalism) is happening tomorrow at Burien City Hall & Library from 10am – 1pm, so please feel free to join us!  Burien City Hall, Comcast, Highline Schools Foundation, Trader Joe’s, Starbucks and Pizza Hut have all provided resources for the event and we are very thankful for their support.

• Karly Feria took a group of Tyee students to a specialized engineering Career Exploration Tour at the Port of Seattle last week.  Here’s what students had to say about the experience:

- 100% said this career experience helped them better understand their future career interests and plans after high school.

- 85% said this experience helped them think about school in a new way or motivated them to do better in school.

- 100% said we should offer trips like this again in the future.

o  “Taking science and math helps you become an engineer”

o “I learned more experiences and how to be an engineer”

o “I saw that you have a cool job if you go to college”

o “I liked the personal statements from the workers”

o “I learned to not let anything stop you from doing what you want”
