Intrepid Summer Movie Series
When: Friday, May 25, Fridays in July & Aug., 7:30 p.m.
Where: Intrepid Sea. Air & Space Museum, Pier 86, 12th Ave. & 46th Street.
What: Bring your lawn chairs, picnic baskets and blankets for these free films on the deck of the Intrepid. Guests are encouraged to bring food, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. No outside alcohol is permitted.

New York Philharmonic Memorial Day Concert
When: Monday, May 28, 8 p.m.
Where: Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, 1047 Amsterdam Avenue (at 110th Street/Cathedral Parkway)
What: Free concert with seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets will be distributed at St. John the Divine on the day of the concert. Music will also be piped out onto the adjacent Pulpit Green, weather permitting. (It’s recommended to arrive at least 90 minutes before the concert for a good seat.)

New York Classical Theater
What: Free performances of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night
When / Where: Thursdays-Sundays, May 29-June 24, 7 p.m., Central Park, close to West 103rd Street/Central Park West entrance
When / Where: Tuesday-Sunday, June 26-July 22, 7 p.m., Castle Clinton, Battery Park
Note: These shows make use of multiple locations, with performers and audiences walking to different parts of the park between scenes. The walking isn’t very far, but don’t plan a picnic as you’ll be moving around a lot. You may want to bring a flashlight to make it easier. Also, while this production is free, your contributions when the hat is passed at the end are vital to keeping the company going.
Films on the Green
When: Fridays in June and July, 8:30 p.m., one Thursday in Sept., 7:30 p.m.
Where: various parks in Manhattan
What: The 2012 Films on the Green Festival will feature 8 classic and contemporary French films, shown with English subtitles, all adapted from French and American Literature. DJs from New York University’s radio station, WNYU 89.1 FM, will spin tunes before screenings.

Summer on the Hudson: Let's Dance!

What: Plays in an outdoor theater, mounted by one of New York’s top off-Broadway companies
Note: Tickets are only available at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park the day of the performance, two per person. Supposedly they are also available online, but since no one I know has ever been able to get tickets, I think it’s an urban legend. You can also try to get standby tickets the evening of the show. Both shows are running in rotation, so check the web site to see which play will be performed any given evening.

Sunset on the Hudson

What: Enjoy the beautiful sunset and some of New York City’s favorite musicians from this spectacular grass covered pier that stretches 900 feet into the Majestic Hudson River.

One of Hudson River Park’s hottest events returns to Pier 84 delivering a knockout punch. While the sun sets and the stars rise you’ll have the time of your life as amateur boxers from the five boroughs and beyond duke it out to see who is the best. The ancient sport of Muay Thai kickboxing will debut as the featured style of this year’s event. Event is open and free to the public with special ticketed VIP ringside seating also available. 10th Annual West Side County Fair
