What is Feedreader?

Feedreader is a free, Windows-based news aggregator that allows you to subscribe to Internet news feeds using your personal computer. Feedreader installs to your Windows taskbar and monitors your subscribed feeds allowing you to easily access new headlines. It can be downloaded from the Baylor University AppCenter at or directly from the Internet at .

Layout of the Feedreader Windows

Feedreader is divided into three main windows – Feeds and Folders, Headlines, and the Article Summary.

Add Feeds

To subscribe to a feed using Feedreader, click on File > New > Feed to bring up the “Add feed” window. Add a feed by entering the URL for the feed.

Import an OPML File

To import a list of feeds supplied as an OPML file, click on File > Import OPML and enter browse for the OPML file located on your local computer.

Update Feed

Feedreader automatically checks your subscribed feeds for new headlines on a regular basis. If you want to manually update a subscribed feed, select the feed from the list and then choose “Update feed” from the “More” button near the right-hand side.

Window Layout

Feedreader allows you to change the default window layout to display feeds. Choose a layout by selecting one of the layout buttons in the bottom-right corner of the Feedreader window.

Organize Your Feeds

Feedreader allows you to organize your feeds into folders. To create a new folder, click on File > New > Folder to bring up the “New Folder” window. Enter a name for your new folder. Once your folders are created, you can drag-and-drop your feeds into your folders.

Viewing Your Feeds

Show a feed’s headlines by selecting a feed from the feed list. Select a headline from the headlines list to display the article summary. View the full story on the original website by clicking on the headline in the article summary window. You can also mark articles to review later by clicking the star under the headline.

Taskbar Notification

Feedreader installs to your Windows taskbar and notifies you whenever it detects new headlines. The Feedreader icon will display in orange when new headlines are available and an optional notification window will appear temporarily.
