Predictive Services Discussion:

Upper ridging is forecast across the West into the Plains today into Saturday with well above normal temperatures, while breezy southerly winds develop across the Plains. An upper-level low will move into the Pacific Northwest late Saturday and move into the Southwest early next week with scattered showers and snow above 8,000 feet as temperatures gradually cool to near normal across the West. Dry and breezy conditions are forecast across the Plains and Southwest Sunday, but increasing moisture will result in widespread wetting rain, locally heavy, and scattered thunderstorms across much of the Southwest into the central and southern Plains and Texas. Another storm is forecast to move into the northern half of the West mid to late next week with continued wet conditions, snow as low as 4,000 feet, and below normal temperatures. Across the East, scattered to widespread showers will fall from the Appalachians to the East Coast today with heavy rain continuing in the Northeast tomorrow. Below normal temperatures are likely east of the Mississippi River this weekend, before a gradual warming trend next week. The Southeast and much of the East Coast is forecast to remain dry next week, but winds are forecast to remain light. Rainfall will develop mid to late next week across the Mississippi Valley and Great Lakes along a cold front. Southern portions of the Hawai'ian Islands may receive heavier than normal rainfall due to anomalous southerly flow, while much of Alaska remains cold and dry.
