NYC ACS Continuing Education Units Provider

Effective February 15, 2017, the New York City Administration for Children's Services is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #SW-0402. Licensed social workers and clinical social workers can obtain contact hours through the James Satterwhite Academy and the ACS Workforce Institute.

The James Satterwhite Academy and the Workforce Institute support ACS and its provider agencies to enhance the knowledge, skills and values needed by staff to ensure the safety, permanency and well-being of New York City's children, youth and families.

Continuing Education Contact Hours/Continuing Education Units

Practicing LMSWs and LCSWs are required to complete 36 continuing education contact hours (3.6 CEUs) throughout the three-year registration period to maintain their licenses. Ten continuing education contact hours is equivalent to one CEU.

Starting February 15, 2017, the New York City Administration for children's services was recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #SW-0402. Unfortunately, we are unable to retroactively award CEU contact hours to learners that previously completed learning programs.

4. How much does the New York City Administration for Children's Services charge for their CEU eligible courses? New York City Administration for Children's Services does not charge learners for taking CEU eligible courses at the James Satterwhite Academy and Workforce Institute.

5. How do I verify that I have completed a course and have obtained continuing education contact hours with the James Satterwhite Academy and/or Workforce Institute? Upon completion of all components of a learning program, learners will receive a certificate verifying the continuing education contact hours received.

6. If I am not a LMSW or LCSW, can I apply continuing education hours earned through New York City Administration for Children's to a different license? The New York City Administration for Children's Services is an approved provider of continuing education only for licensed social workers. Please contact your appropriate oversight organization for guidance about continuing education hours specific to your license.
