What should your coach know about you?I'm not very tech savvy. I usually choose pen and paper over trying to learn a new program.Journal Entry 2 (completed the week of January 30, 2017)Journal Entry 2 (Week of January 30)6. What seems most exciting about using technology?Technology has always seemed like the best way to go about collaborating especially in terms of a group project for school. Using something like Google Docs and/or Groupme has always been a faster way to get things done than trying to find a time when my group could meet up. For me, technology is definitely about increased efficiency because when you have school, work, and a personal life you don't want to have to spend more time than necessary on the school work .7. What are you most nervous about when you consider technology use? What contingencies do you have set up in cases of technological malfunctions or setbacks?I have definitely had my computer crash in the middle of a large assignment and lost all of my progress. I have autosave set up and I save assignments both on the computer and on a flashdrive but as a few cases may have it, sometimes those things don't pull through or I forget to save after working for a while and lose a ton of progress. That is probably what makes me most nervous is just the impermanence of saving something on the computer. Something else I do if I have a really big project that I'm going to be working on at different places is I will upload it into a cloud or just use Google Docs up until I have to format it just to make sure no matter where I go and no matter if I have my laptop or flash drive I can still work on it.8. What will be your first technology integration tool? Describe what your technology coach plans to do for you?My first tool is Wanderlist. Andrea thinks this a great tool for to-do lists and she is going to show me how the to-do lists can be utilized in my personal life as well as in the different aspects of graduate school.9. How did it go? What can be improved?Great instructional videos. I looked into the app when Andrea told me what tool she would be introducing me to and I didn't realize all of these possibilities. I think the only thing I felt was absent from these tutorials is how it would look from the side of someone who doesn't have the app. I have been doing a lot of planning for my sister's wedding so the use as an address book is very appealing but I would be concerned, for instance sharing the list with my mom to have her help with addresses, not knowing how functional it is when you share with someone who doesn't have it. Maybe just a little information about something like that would be really helpful, just a verbalization of it even would help.10. How did you react to the tool? Please share any positives or negative concerns.I'm unsure about the use of this tool in my school or work life simply because I don't know how it works with people who maybe don't have the tool. For example I really did get excited about the possibility of using this in group projects but I don't have any knowledge about accessibility for someone who doesn't have the application. Other than that concern, I really like the idea of this app and I think I'm going to try it out. I'm pretty organized with my pen and paper planner when it comes to school, but the ability to share a to-do list with my boyfriend in the form of groceries or maybe housework that needs to be done sounds really functional and useful. I also thought it would be a good way to keep track of things for my dog like when she needs her medicine, vet visit, etc. Journal Entry 3 (completed the week of February 13, 2017)Journal Entry 3 (Week of February 6)11. What did you plan for your second technology integration tool?I was introduced to Popplet, a graphic design creation tool.12. What was created (videos, screencasts, tutorials, examples, etc.) to implement the technology?I received 1 tutorial video and two handouts. One handouts dealt with uses of the tool and the second was a tutorial that provided the same information as the video.13. How did your coach help you?Andrea not only showed me how to use the tool but gave several examples of ways to use it. i.e. She didn't just show me the function but also the purpose and ways to integrate the tool into my life.14. How did it go? Was it successful? Did it seem to work the way it was intended? Will it be helpful in your professional, personal, or academic life? With the short time I have had with Popplet I enjoy it. I think I'm going to be most likely to use this in my academic life, specifically as a way to organize the multitude of student development theories I have to know and also perhaps my professional competencies. I could see this being useful in my professional life as a way to get my students to brainstorm about college and where they are headed. It will be useful as a "fill-in" graphic organizer for that purpose. As far as my personal life I don't see this tool as being useful but 2 out of 3 areas isn't bad! It did take a little getting used to, but that's to be expected. It worked exactly as Andrea said it would and the instruction was straight forward and directly applicable.15. What would you change next time? There were a few disappointing elements of Popplet. One is that it is only free for up to 10 organizers. I'm hoping that is 10 at a time so once I finish using one for my students I can print it out and then delete it so I have space for more, but it may be that you can only create 10 total and that would really be a bummer. Two: I wish there was a way to search public popplets so that if there already existed a popplet on the topic I was about to make one for I could use one that was already made or alter it to fit my specific needs. Both of these are out of our control however. As far as the instruction goes however, I don't have any complaints. It was very thorough and I appreciated the handout so that as I used Popplet if I forgot how to do something I didn't have to search through the video, it was all conveniently restated as a handout. I think if it were just the video it would be fine, but if it were just a handout (not in this case) some instructions can be misinterpreted and end up being less than helpful.Journal Entry 4 (completed the week of February 27, 2017)Journal Entry 4 (Week of February 13)16.
