Frequently Asked Questions – Dulles HS Parent Training Sessions Fall 2020Questions about classes and schedules:If a senior has off campus during 1st, 2nd, and/or 6th, 7th will they be required to attend those period’s for attendance? UPDATE (8/21/20): New district decision- those who are off campus 6th and/or 7th do not have to attend 8th period SEL. Students can use this time as Asynchronous learning time. How they are planning to conduct PE class online and grading procedures? The teachers will be sharing information about working out safely, guidelines and regulations for specific sports, team-building activities, and creating workouts to be completed during the time. How are dual credit classes going to work for seniors? Their teacher at DHS will provide that information about their college classes, they are working with the HCC professors.Will courses like "Dance" be a part of the curriculum when in school attendance resumes? Yes, they will have class just like normal, but with facemasks and social distancing.How is AP handled? Will they receive extra time? AP teachers are working diligently to plan for those AP classes. There is always extra work in AP classes that is the nature of the animal when it comes to AP. Students will have more asynchronous work than other classes.How will Biology and Chemistry labs be handled for AP? The teacher will schedule those labs after regular class hours. They will also be virtual.Have schedules been officially released? Schedules will not be official until Sunday evening, August 16, 2020. Students can login to Skyward and see their schedule at that time. They can see a schedule now, but the counselors are still making changes and balancing classes, so they are likely not final.When is the last day to change classes/schedule changes? The students will not be allowed schedule changes for teachers, class period, lunch period. Schedule changes will be for students who do not have 7 periods, who are missing a class, already took a class during summer school. Course level change dates have not been released yet. If your requests meets the above criteria, students will make these requests via the Dulles HS Counselor webpage, click on their counselors name and fill out the form and the counselors will process the request as soon as they are able to do so. Will students be expected to leave their cameras on during class in TEAMS? Each teacher will set their classroom expectations for their individual classes.Where will Reese Career and Technical Center classes meet? These classes will also meet in TEAMS, just like all their classes from DHS. They will go to their calendar in TEAMS and look for the invite from their teacher, click on the meeting and join.Questions about school day needs and support:Is there a time limit on assessments when students begin classes and testing? Just like if the student were here on campus, they will have their class time to take assessments. Do we need school supplies? Plan to have a quiet work area for your student, paper, pens, pencils and the teachers will let the students know what they will need for each class.Tutorials, what kind of support will be offered? Teachers will have intervention, extension time for tutorials during the SEL portion of the schedule on Tuesdays and Fridays. This can be a time utilized by clubs, organizations, counselors, and more.What about school clubs? Students can reach out directly to the club or organization they are interested in joining for more information. Click on the following link HERE to access the DHS Clubs and Organization page. Please note that some clubs are not meeting at this time. Do students need money loaded on their lunch account? No, not at this time. Grab and go meals are available per the schedule provided on the Fort Bend ISD webpage. Questions about the first day of school and attendance:Will there be instructions/guidance for the first day of school? Click the link “Welcome to DHS 2020-2021 school year” This letter was emailed to all parents and students Aug. 13th, it has all the information, videos and links you will need for the first week of school If a student is late due to technical issues, will they be counted absent? We know that these first few weeks may have added challenges. As we all work through them, grace will be given to students. They are required to attend for attendance, but if they are late or have technical issues they just need to send a message to their teacher so they can determine how to work out a plan and resolve the issue. If it becomes a consistent issue, it will be addressed with the parents.Will they be recording synchronous teaching and uploading videos in case kids miss class due to technical difficulties? No, they are expected to attend scheduled classes just like they would if we were here at DHS. If they miss a class, they will need to contact the teacher for a make-up lesson and plan and submit a letter for their attendance to be cleared with the attendance office.Questions about technology: Is the student's login the same or different from the initial Virtual Learning experience? The student login for 1link (Schoology, Office 365 and TEAMS) is the student email address and password. The student login for Skyward is their ID number and same password as above. Click on this link for password help. Once the students have their password they can set up their security questions to recover passwords and reset for themselves by logging in to my. using their ID number and password (same log in as Skyward).If a family was issued only one district computer, but has students in different grade levels, that are required to login at the same time, are there some alternatives that are being provided? All families can get a computer for each student at their home campus. Please make sure to sign in before leaving the campus (connect to district devices wifi) to avoid the “cannot find domain” error. How do students how do students receive emails? Through what platform? Microsoft Office is the platform.Where do they check in to be present in the class? Students are to report to class using Microsoft TEAMS. How will students take test/quizzes online? There will be a lock down system for students to download for taking test through Schoology and Respondus.How will teachers communicate with parents? Teachers will communicate through Skyward.If we checked “desktop” in the enrollment verification, can we still pick up a laptop? And will students need a laptop once we transfer to face to face? Yes, you can still pick up a laptop from Dulles High School; pick up times are 1-4PM. Students will need a laptop as we are transitioning to face-to-face instruction. What if my student is unable to login to a district computer using the student ID? You may need to drive by and catch the district Wi-Fi (District Devices Wifi) to login to the computer. For new enrollees, the ID number and password is FORTBENDSCHOOLxxxx (the xxxx stands for the last four digits of the student ID.)Is there a student helpline or technical support line? Yes, 281-634-0826If you declared that your student did not need a device on the B2 School Readiness form (B2SRF) but now see the need to check out a device, can you go to get one or do you need permission? You are able to edit the B2SRF, but you will still be available to go up to school to collect a device if necessary. See answer to question #7 under “Questions about Technology.” How do we get Office 365? This is free to all FBISD studentsAre students able to create groups in TEAMS? No, students are not able to create their own groups or chats in TEAMS these must be created by the teacher. ................
