NO CREDIT will be given for assignments with answers only!If you do not understand a problem, then write a specific question for that problem on your homework.Format for homework assignments:Put a heading in the upper right-hand corner of the paper. This should include your full name, the date, the block, and the assignment (page number and problems).Show all of your work and highlight or circle your answers.Skills Tests: Every skills test will be scored out of 4 points possible.? The scores are determined as follows:Mastery:4 – Students have shown mastery of the topic.? All parts of the answer are correct, work is shown, and explanations are thorough and use key vocabulary and are clearProficient:3 – Most answers show complete knowledge of concepts but have minor errors and explanations are somewhat thorough, but may lack in detail.Partially Proficient:2 – Students have one major error or multiple minor errors in their work.? Their explanations are unclear and the work is correct, or both are not fully completed or clear. They have not yet met all of the objectives for the topic.Unsatisfactory:1 – Students have multiple major errors in their work and very little understanding is shown.? Their explanations are not clear, work is incomplete, and answers are incorrect.Incomplete:0 – Students have not shown any knowledge of the topic. Either the work was not done or no knowledge of the topic was evident in their work.?0 out of 4 = 0%, 1 of out 4 = 50%, 2 out of 4 = 60%, 3 out of 4 = 80%, and a 4 out of 4 = 100%.??Each question will be given a grade of zero through four. An average will be calculated and then rounded down. This is the score of the skills test. If students receive a score below a 3 on a skills test, they will have?one?opportunity to retake that skills test. Before a skills test is re-taken, students will need to fill out a correction form which includes a signature of a tutor, teacher or parent in order to retake a skills test. After this is complete, they will work with their teacher to?determine a date and time to retake the skills test on that topic.? The “retake” deadline for all skills tests is 2 weeks after the skills test is returned to the student. The goal is to have students retake and master the skills tests before the unit examTESTS:Tests will be announced at least one week in advance, and assess material from the previous unit.Students are expected to take tests during class time, unless they were absent the class immediately before or the day of the test.Tests must be completed within the time of class, unless otherwise specified.Unit tests are worth 100 points and the semester final is worth 200 points. If you have an excused absence, you must take the test within one week of the date it was originally taken. After this time, any missing test scores become zero.If your absence is unexcused you will receive a permanent 0% in the gradebook.PARTICIPATIONEvery day you will receive a stamp of the day (warm up, homework, summary, exit ticket, etc)I will count the stamps at the end of the week, and you will receive 10 points for each stamp. PROGRESS REPORTS:I will update your grades in the computer at least once a week. There are several ways that you or your parents can check your progress—school website, ask me, get a print-out.It is your responsibility to track your progress in the class!Do not wait until the end of the semester to worry about your grade—by then it is too late!TARDIES:Students who are not in their seats before the bell rings are considered tardy Students who are habitually tardy will not succeed in this class. ABSENCESFor every EXCUSED absence you will have 2 days to make up any class work you missed. If you have an UNEXCUSED absence on a quiz or test day, you will receive a permanent zero in the gradebook. If you are 10 minutes or more late coming to class, you will receive an unexcused absence. If you are not in your assigned seat, you will be counted as unexcused absent. This includes the end of the class period. Most students that do not pass this class also have more than three absences. BATHROOM PASSES:You have 5 bathroom passes for the semester unless otherwise noted. Use them wisely. CLASSROOM PROCEDURES:I expect you to make mistakes. It is 100% okay to be wrong in this class. Making mistakes is totally normal as you work to become a more effective problem solver. So, you do not always have to be correct but you do always have to work. This means asking questions, answering questions, taking notes, listening, etc. RULESMy most important rule involves respect. You are expected to respect yourself, your classmates, and your teachers. Be patient with others and yourself. This means you are expected to consistently encouraging those around you. The classroom should be a comfortable environment for every student. Negative comments/behavior will not be tolerated. No food or drink allowed in class except for water. CELL PHONE USE:Upon entering class, I ask that you place your phone in the designated cell phone area. If this worries you, please don’t bring it to class. I am not responsible for your phone. Periodically we will use phones to play a review game. If this is abused, we will no longer play the game. I understand your phone is important to you but we need as few distractions as possible and phones are a huge distraction. You have been warned. If you have your phone in class (aside from playing the review game), I will take it for the remainder of the day and we will have a conversation before it is returned.
