Travel Day – October 9th: DEPART USA

Bus to JFK Airport will depart from Wooster Street Travel office at 11:30 AM (sharp) by a private deluxe motorcoach. If you cannot make it to the office by that time, you will have to have your own transportation to JFK/NYC. Our flight # with Alitalia to Rome will depart at TIME pm US time and arrive in Rome TIME AM Italian time the following day.

Day 1 – October 10th: PALERMO

Rome arrival – TBA. We will proceed to the domestic terminal for our connecting flight – Alitalia flight # departing at TBA. Upon our arrival in Palermo at 10:20 AM, we will collect our luggage, board our motorcoach and transfer to our hotel. After some free time, we meet our Local Guide and embark on an afternoon tour of this marvelous city. We will visit the Quattro Canti, a splendid example of Spanish Baroque architecture, the Palace of the Normans and its superb Palatine Chapel, and the cathedral. We will also visit the famous Benedictine Abbey of Monreale where you will admire a 12th century Cathedral, housing very fine mosaics representing a complete cycle of the Old and the New Testament and the Cloistersl Romanesque Duomo that is one of the finest Norman Cathedrals in Italy. Its mosaics rival those of Monreale. Both cathedrals are dominated by colossal mosaic figures of the Byzantine Pantocratic Christ. Lunch will be on your own.

We will then return to our hotel for a WELCOME DINNER. (D)

Day 2 – October 11th: PALERMO / MARSALA / PALERMO

This morning bright and early, after breakfast, for an excursion to Marsala. We will first journey to Segesta, a large archaeological zone, with a magnificent Doric temple, 420 and 430 BC. Then continue to the sea town of Marsala, rediscovered in the eighteenth century by English merchant, John Woodhouse, and known for its sweet wines and salt mills. We will visit a wine cellar and sample some Marsala during a special wine-tasting session. We will then drive along the Trapani’s coastline before return to Palermo. En-route, we will have a special Sicilian lunch (included) with local wines. After our Sicilian Lunch we return to Palermo, Dinner will be on your own. (B/L)

Day 3 – October 12th: PALERMO / AGRIGENTO / SIRACUSA

This morning, bright and early after breakfast, we will journey to our destination for the next 2 nights. Along the way we will stop in Agrigento, a town built on a hillside facing the sea which is famous for its magnificent Valley of the Temples. There, we will be joined by our Local Guide for a tour of the Valley including the Temples of Castor, Pollus, Zeus, Concord, and Hercules. We will also see the Tomb of Theron and the Porta Aurea. Lunch on your own. Location for lunch will be determined during the course of the day. After lunch, our destination – hotel in Siracusa, the city of Archimedes, the Greek mathematician, who was slain by the Romans and the place where Plato taught as well! Our 2-night stay begins in Siracusa. This evening Dinner will be included at the HOTEL. (B/D)

Day 4 – October 13th: SIRACUSA

This morning we will meet our local guide for a visit of Siracusa; the Greek Theater, the Ortigia Island with it’s beautiful Duomo and it’s Barock Building. Lunch will be on your own. In the afternoon, we will continue to Noto for a visit of the splendid Barock city. Dinner will be included at the hotel. (B/D)

Day 5 – October 14th: SIRACUSA / TAORMINA

This morning bright and early, after breakfast, we depart for our new destination: the beautiful town of Taormina. Along the way, we will be joined by our Local Guide and make a stop in Caltagirone, a city most famous for the production of pottery, particularly maiolica and terra-cotta wares. The main landmark of the city is the 142-step monumental Staircase of Santa Maria del Monte, built from 1608 in the old part of the town. The peculiarity is that each step is decorated with different hand-decorated ceramics, using styles and figures derived from the millennial tradition of pottery making. Lunch in on your own. Late afternoon, we will arrive at our hotel in Taormina for a three-night stay. Dinner will be at the HOTEL. (B/D)

Day 6 – October 15th: TAORMINA

This morning, bright and early, after breakfast, we will be joined by our Local Guide to visit the splendor and magnificence of Mount Etna which is considered one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Not only is Mount Etna always in a constant state of eruption but it is also believed to be the world's oldest active volcano. The fertile volcanic soils support extensive agriculture, with vineyards and orchards spread across the lower slopes of the mountain and the broad Plain of Catania to the south. We will meet for lunch (TBD and not included). We will then be joined by our Local Guide for an afternoon walking tour of Taormina’s charming city center which includes the Greek/Roman amphitheater, with its beautiful view of Giardini Naxos and Mount Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe. Dinner included at a local restaurant. (B/D)

DAY 7 – October 16th: TAORMINA

FREE DAY to relax and enjoy the beautiful little town of Taormina. You can either enjoy the endless shopping or just lounging around at a local cafe sipping an expresso or cappuccino or endulging in the Taorminian cuisine.

Day 8 – October 17th: TAORMINA / CALABRIA / SORRENTO

This morning bright and early, after breakfast, we depart from Calabria driving through the rustic simplicity of Calabria via Salerno – landing place of the U.S. 5th Army in 1943 – to the cliff-top resort of Sorrento which sits high on a beautiful plateau where we are greeted by the sapphire blue gulf of Naples and the Majestic Mount Vesuvius. Lunch will be on your own along the way. Dinner will be included at the Hotel. (B/D)

Day 9 – October 18th: SORRENTO / POSITANO / AMALFI / RAVELLO / SORRENTO

Today we depart bright and early, after breakfast to meet our Local Guide who will show us a day we will remember for a lifetime. Our coach will take us to a wonderland of small villages, via the spectacular "Amalfi Drive", the most famous road in Italy, affording spectacular views of the sea and coastline. Our first stop will be Positano where we can stroll the village and have a sip of Espresso or Gelato. We will then board a private boat to take us to the town of Amalfi. We'll stop to relax and have a nice lunch on your own. After lunch, we can stroll through the cobblestone streets, and either do some shopping, sip a cappuccino or just watch the passerbyers. As the sun sets, we'll return to Sorrento, filled with the warm memories and dreams of "Bella Italia". Tonight we will enjoy Dinner at a Local Restaurant. (B/D)

Day 10 – October 19th: SORRENTO / CAPRI / SORRENTO

Today we departing bright and early, after breakfast where a Local Guide will join us on a private coach which will transfer us to the Sorrento pier. We board the high speed hydrofoil to the fabled island of Capri. After a scenic funicular ride and a tour of the "Gardens of Augustus" you will have time for shopping in the town of Capri before we board the hydrofoil back to Naples. Lunch will be on your own. In Naples, we will have an orientation tour of the city before we return to Sorrento. Dinner will be included at the hotel. (B/D)

Day 11 – October 20th: SORRENTO AT LEISURE

Day 12 – October 21st: SORRENTO / SANTA MARIA A VICO / GIOIA / FAICCHIO / ROME

Today we depart bright and early, after breakfast, traveling north along the "Highway of the Sun" to the eternal city of Rome. Along the way, we will visit Pompeii, the ancient city that lay buried beneath volcanic ash for over 1000 years. We will then continue to Yolanda’s hometown for a quick expresso and snack. From there, we will explore some of the little towns and villages en route to Rome. Our last village stop before traveling onto to Rome will be Faicchio. We will have late full course lunch; Yolanda’s treat. After this lunch, you won’t need dinner. (B/L)

OPTIONAL – POMPEII: A guided tour will reveal the remarkable ruins of an advanced civilization, which was abruptly ended by a violent eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD.

Day 13 – October 22nd: ROME

After an early breakfast, we depart our hotel this morning for a very special, privately guided tour with our Local Guide Highlights – via Merulana, the Basilica of St John Lateran, the Holy Spirit (visit) Appian Way, the Dominus Quo Vadis Chapel, Catacombs (visit), via Appia Antica to Cecilia Metella , Thermes of Carcalla.the afternoon we will be doing the walking tour Piazza Navona , the Pantheon , the Spanish Steps , And Trevi Fountain you will throw your coin to comeback to Italy. (B/D) This evening we enjoy a festive farewell dinner with entertainment at a local restaurant which is included.

Day 14 – October 23rd: DEPARTING ROME FOR USA

This morning we bid “ARRIVEDERCI ROMA” as we transfer to the airport for our return flight home. Flight #. Departure from airport is (Italian time) and arrives (US Time) at JFK. We should arrive back in Hamden, Wooster Street Travel parking area by. (B)
