Emily In Japan

Sunday, 4 July 2010 Repeat

A $50 million exhibition of more than 200 works of Indigenous artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye, toured Japan in February 2008. It

was the largest solo exhibition of an Australian artist to tour overseas.

This film examines the amazing impact the works had, taking the art world by storm in Osaka and Tokyo. It was all the more

incredible considering the vast differences in cultural backgrounds of the artist and her admirers.

The exhibition was organised as a labour of love by National Museum of Australia curator Margot Neale, who saw firsthand the

power and energy that Emily’s work communicated to the Japanese in a timeless and universal language.

This communication has captivated people all over the world for 20 years, and is an interest that has not waned since her

passing in 1996.

Leslie decides he needs some help getting into the dating scene as he is back in town, so he turns to Todd. But before they can

have their big night out, Leslie gets some bad news about the store’s health insurance.

He tells the staff an increase in premiums has put their insurance in jeopardy, so announces that he will host a reality show

where the loser will be fired in order to save enough money to pay the bill for everyone else.

When Todd ends up in last place, Leslie tries to ease the blow by getting him hired at their big rivals, Super Value Mart, where

Amy snaps him up, planning to exploit his sex appeal to draw in the customers.

Lunch Monkeys

Monday, 5 July 2010

The knockabout antics of a gormless bunch of misfits in the admin department of a personal injury law firm continue when an

important cheque is misplaced.

Mike Cranford, (Nigel Havers) senior partner in Fox Cranford, has just settled a big claim for a difficult client but when he

comes to collect his cheque it’s gone missing.

Office manager Gloria (Sian Reeves) says she gave it to Darrel (Chris Hannon) but he lost it playing Jason Bourne versus Jackie

Chan with Asif (Abdullah Afzal).

Asif has been learning hypnosis and puts Darrel in a trance to find the cheque. While under, Darrel tells him (and Kenny

(Christian Foster)) what he thinks of everyone, so Asif decides to give Darrel a trigger word which makes him behave like a dog.

Meanwhile, Shelley (Rachel Rae) finds a scratch card in a magazine and is excited when she wins a holiday. Addicted to gambling

she then bets on a horse with the same name as her boyfriend.

Confronted by sly solicitor Charlie (Steve John Shepherd) she uses her initiative and wallops Charlie in the knackers.

Shelley bumps into Mike Cranford in the bookies. They both back 'Swanny’s Girl' and win massively.

Charlie and Gloria are waiting on the steps for Shelley to return. She comes back with Mike who confirms that she was with him

Monday, 5 July 2010 Final

In the final episode of this BAFTA award winning series, the gang realise something strange is going on in the town and it looks

like the Virtue organisation is behind it. When Alicia (Antonia Thomas) takes to wearing a buttoned up dress and exclaiming she

has been wicked in her past, they know all is not well. And when Kelly (Lauren Socha) also becomes a brainwashed ‘goody goody’

fear really sets in.

Battling the evils of ‘goodness’ they take on the Virtue organisation with shocking consequences.

Tuesday

8:30pm

The Street

Tuesday, 6 July 2010

For postman Wayne, (Mark Benton) life on the street has been less than kind recently: wife Val (Melanie Hill) left him, taking

with her their two sons and the dog; his back’s deteriorating which makes his postal round harder by the day, and he’s got no

money.

A potentially good night out speed-dating is ruined when Wayne takes a shine to Rachel (Claire Hackett), who is crippled by a

stammer which Wayne seems incapable of being sympathetic about. Now at his lowest ebb, Wayne thinks that his problems could be

solved if only he could have a new start, somewhere nice and hot, like Greece.

With a new-found determination Wayne adopts a new approach to his work, whereby he opens the mail that’s addressed to the

wealthier parts of the neighbourhood and removes any cash, before delivering the rest. Meanwhile, 15-year-old illiterate truant,

Damien, (Michael Taylor) has been watching Wayne closely and confronts him. Not wanting to lose his job, Wayne suggests that

Damien helps him with the heavy work. Damien takes the opportunity to earn some money, whilst learning how to read.

E2: Transport: Seoul: The Stream Of Consciousness

Wednesday, 7 July 2010

In 2003, the city of Seoul took a rare step ‘back in time’, demolishing a major downtown freeway to uncover and restore the

ancient Chonggyecheon stream that once flowed beneath it.

An impressive feat of engineering, the project re-purposed nearly 75 percent of the dismantled highway material for

reconstruction and rehabilitation of the stream’s banks and commercial corridor.

The Cheonggyecheon is now a vital part of the city’s commercial and tourism sectors, and has proven that environmental

restoration can revive culture and community, as well. The project however does have its critics, mainly environmentalists.

Design For Life

Wednesday, 7 July 2010 Final

From the initial 12 students vying for a six month placement with Philippe Starck, it has now come down to two – don’t miss

tonight’s final episode of Design For Life. After spending the last couple of months thinking, stressing, striving and working,

27-year-old Ilsa and 23-year-old Mike are now only a few weeks away from finding out which one of them will win the placement.

But first they have to put right the flaws in their designs and get final drawings to Jean Philipe, Starck’s leading model maker

to produce a working prototype of their design. The students have also been allocated an advertising agency to work with. They

need to formulate an advertising campaign for their product, including final logo, tagline and look.

Mike gets straight into it and has some clear ideas. Despite Starck’s dislike of the name ‘Stable’, Mike is keen to go with it

and thinks he can convince him otherwise. Meanwhile Ilsa is struggling by comparison, and the advertising team can’t quite

understand her thinking. She is soon hamstrung by her old problem of over-complicating everything.

As the clock ticks towards D-Day the pair work more and more frenetically – reducing Ilsa to tears and Mike to exhaustion. But

when it’s finally time to present their finished prototypes to Starck, the biggest surprises are yet to come.

drastically alter his life forever.

The Reel Australia: Monkey Grip

Nora - in her early thirties - is recently divorced and caring for her thirteen-year-old daughter, trying to live free of the compromises of conventional domesticity and dependence upon men but in spite of this, is drawn into a dangerously obsessive relationship with an attractive actor addicted to heroin.

Set in the inner Melbourne suburbs of Carlton and Fitzroy, within a network of talented, reckless rock 'n' roll musicians, actors and writers - people refusing to live by the rules of consumerist culture and safe, conventional morality, exploring the possibilities and suffering the traumas of a new sexual openness.

The story takes place from one summer to the next and explores the changes Nora undergoes in attempting to gain control over her life.

Directed by Ken Cameron, Monkey Grip stars Colin Friels and Noni Hazlehurst.
