|Message from the President |[pic] |

|Greetings from the President!  I’d like to congratulate and thank my sisters of the Tau chapter for all that |Alison Buhler |

|we have accomplished this semester.  We inducted ten new sisters in April making the Gamma class the biggest |Materials Engr 2010 |

|class since the Founders!  One of our focuses this year was on Philanthropy with events such as RPI’s Got | |

|Talent where we organized a talent show with the proceeds going to charity and of course participating in |[pic] |

|Relay for Life (along with a pancake sale to benefit the American Cancer Society).  Our new officers were |Hillary Field |

|candidates and our Scholastic officer holding various workshops on test taking as well as making a back test | |

|file. Traditions such as Sisterhood Night and our Senior Celebration were continued.  I’m proud of what our | |

|chapter has accomplished this semester and I am looking forward to working with these wonderful women next | |

|semester as well.  Thank you for reading our Spring 2007 newsletter and of course feel free to contact us | |

|with comments or questions! | |

|Spring Rush – Audra Bieg – Vice President |Cait Mounts |

|This semester the Tau Chapter had an incredible Spring recruitment period. Our Winter Wonderland themed Rush |Mechanical Engr. 2010 |

|included an exciting games night, a delicious snowman building contest, and a delightful ski lodge themed | |

|dessert event. Our signature event this semester was our Engineering Ice Cream event where the sisters and |[pic] |

|potential new members all enjoyed the opportunity to share good conversation over some delicious dessert. |Allison O’Neill |

|Nothing draws a crowd like McDreamy, over 30 young women crowded into one living room to enjoy the Grey's |Chemical Engr. 2010 |

|anatomy event and some pumpkin mousse. Between TV nights, Official Rush events, and Sporting events the | |

|sisters of the Tau chapter had a great time and met a lot of new and interesting people. The Tau chapter |[pic] |

|extended invitations for candidacy to 11 young women. We are excited for the fall and a new exciting edition|Sarah Patterson |

|This semester the Tau chapter held a public speaking workshop for our sisters, facilitated by the Leadership | |

|Center on campus. We had the opportunity to practice our speech writing and persuasion skills by giving | |

|short speeches on assigned topics. By the end of the workshop we were all convinced that Captain Planet was | |

|indeed the best super-hero and all our fast-food cravings could be satisfied at Taco-Bell/KFC combo | |

|restaurants. This entertaining activity was a great way to practice our presentation skills and receive | |

|feedback from our facilitator as well as each other. We look forward to more fun workshops like this to | |

|continue to develop our professional and leadership skills in the future. | |

|Philanthropy Chair – Kate Naske | |

|I am extremely happy to report that this semester has been filled with Philanthropy events spanning from | |

|February to the last week of classes. Toward | |

|the beginning of the semester the sisters signed onto The World Community Grid allowing computations |[pic] |

|concerning projects that benefit humanity to be executed on their laptops while they were idle. The sisters |Kathy Rogers |

|all pitched in to purchase a brick that will be part of a wall surrounding a flagpole on campus to benefit |Chemical Engr. 2010 |

|Habitat for Humanity as well. In early April we were busy making stress balls to distribute during finals | |

|week by spooning flour into balloons. It was a lot of fun and a little messy when some of the sisters |[pic] |

|decided to get more flour on themselves than in their balloons. Our creative and artsy sides came out when |Michelle Tanner |

|we made Birthday cards to help Shane Bernier break the world record of receiving the most Birthday cards in |Engr. 2010 |

|one year. We also raised over two thousand dollars for the Relay for Life event on campus as well as hosted | |

|a talent show called RPI’s Got Talent which raised $130 for the American Heart Association. We hope to make | |

|RPI’s Got Talent an annual event and continue to participate in Relay for Life and the World Community Grid | |

|as well. | |

|Fundraising Chair – Elizabeth DeLouise |Fall 2007 Officers |

|This was a great year for fundraising. In the fall we raised $148 with our nerdy t-shirt sale, and $110 from| |

|selling pancakes. In the spring we raised $142 from an ongoing online magazine sale, $88 from selling and |President |

|delivering Crush soda bottles for Valentine's Day (in the snowstorm!) and $250 from a second nerdy t-shirt |Nicole Labrecque |

|sale. The profit from the sale was split between Relay for Life and our chapter, so we really raised $530! | |

|The most popular selling shirt was "the integral of e to the xy" (not spelled out of course), and we had |Vice President |

|several orders from other A.O.E. chapters as well. We also held a pancake sale to raise money for Relay for |Audra Bieg |

|Life and made $120 there. So overall we raised $1080 over the course of the year. The money for our chapter| |

|will be used to fund the framing of our Charter, helping send 3 sisters to Convention, and supplies for |Treasurer |

|pancake sales and ceremonies. During finals week we are holding another pancake sale to raise money for the |Teresa Amaducci |

|Maxine Turner Scholarship Fund which we hope will be set up by the IEB. | |

|This semester included a wide variety of social events. The biggest of them was the Formal dinner and dance. | |

|The sisters and their dates dressed up and spent the evening enjoying elegant food and fun music at a |Membership Educator |

|beautiful venue in Schodack, NY. Along with this, the chapter participated in social activities with other |Janine Freeman |

|Greek organizations, including dinners with Alpha Chi Rho and Delta Tau Delta Fraternities, and sending a | |

|team to play in the Alpha Gamma Delta 24-hour volleyball tournament. In the community, the ladies partook in |Assistant MED |

|Troy Night Out, a night of food, art, and music in downtown Troy. They also created and played in an |Tanya Battye |

|intramural floor hockey team and had a Superbowl Party at Dimple’s Apartment. All together, the sisters had a| |

|good time with friends and sister while participating in these social activities. |Historian |

|This semester of Spring 2007 I had the pleasure of planning various events as Sisterhood Chair. The first |Merchandise |

|major event I planned was Sisterhood Night, in which all of the sisters got together to talk about our |Alison Dennis |

|potential candidates. After discussing and voting on 11 girls we ate pizza, watched movies, and enjoyed each | |

|others company. A few days after bids went out I planned our traditional dinner at Bucca Di Beppo, in which |Social Chair |

|all of the sisters and our 11 new candidates enjoyed wonderful Italian food and dessert. I don’t think anyone|Heather Bowman |

|left Bucca that night with an empty stomach! As the weeks went on I planned Friday Night Dinners so that the | |

|sisters and candidates would have more time with each other. Friday Night Dinners gave the sisters and |Professional Chair |

|candidates the opportunity to learn more about each other, share some laughs, and become more comfortable |Elyse Portanova |

|with each other. We all got the opportunity to hear some funny stories from the sisters as some of the | |

|candidates took this time to do some interviews. As the candidate period was coming to an end I was fortunate|Philanthropy Chair |

|enough to get the opportunity to have a sisterhood event during ritual week. I planned the “Touch Someone” |Kate Naske |

|event as was done last semester, in which sisters would touch other sisters who displayed characteristics of | |

|a true sister and friend. This not only made us all feel tingly and cared for inside but also gave us all the|Sisterhood Chair |

|chance to see how much each and every one of us means to each other. After our 11 new girls from the Gamma |Kristen Gurekovich |

|Class became initiated I planned a small pizza party for them. It was a lot of fun having all of us hang out | |

|as sisters and make letters together. This Spring was just an amazing time for all of us and it was a |Scholastic Chair |

|pleasure being a part of making that happen! |Alison Buhler |

|In the course of the spring semester, the Tau Chapter has bettered the relations that it has with the local |Graduating Seniors!!! |

|Pan-Hellenic Association. We have increased the percentage of ladies that participate in committees, meant to| |

|bring all the sororities together. We even had a sister, Selby Miller, who was committee head. This is very |Sarah Bowman |

|exciting for the sorority. Panhel planned two mixers this semester. The first event was a barbeque. This was |Founding Class |

|a lot of fun and had a great turn out. The other event that was held was a girls' lacrosse game. For this | |

|event, we made signs that showed our support for the team. One of our new sisters is on the team, and we felt|Alison Duncan |

|very proud to support her. Another new tradition that our sorority participated in is "Dress to the Pin." |Founding Class |

|Every first Monday of the month, we would dress in business casual with our sister pins to show our pride in | |

|Greek life. I believe this should be continued into the coming years. The biggest event of the semester was |Emaan Farhoud |

|Greek Weekend. There was a Barbeque to start it off and then Greek Olympics the next day. Our girls had a |Founding Class |

|lovely time with this. I wanted to increase the participation in Panhel this semester, and I hope to do the | |

|same for the next one. |Delilah Gawlick |

|Historian – Abbey Provine | |

|This semester has been very successful for us. In addition to all of the amazing things we were able to do, |Abbey Provine |

|and the new ladies that we brought into the organization as active sisters, we also decided, as a chapter, to|Founding Class |

|honor two ladies who played a huge part in our colony installation, and in fact, the development of the Tau | |

|chapter. We voted as a sorority to induct two honorary members into our chapter, Mary Dalton and Emma |Laurel White |

|Grundy. The traditions committee is working to develop an induction ceremony, including a flower (orchid) |Founding Class |

|and pin (dolphin). The committee will also be developing a tradition for the Preference party put on at the | |

|end of each rush period. |Sara Winar |

|Honorary Members | |

|The IEB has approved two honorary members of the Tau Chapter: Mary Dalton and Emma Grundy. Both were |Lynn Bresnahan |

|involved with our interest group but had to leave RPI before we became a colony. Mary graduated in 2005 and |Alpha Class |

|Emma went back to England (she was an exchange student). Alison Duncan wrote of Mary's dedication: "[Mary] | |

|was involved in researching Alpha Omega Epsilon and the process that we needed to go through to become an |Dimple Patel |

|interest group, colony, and chapter...[she assisted] Meghan and Nicole in setting up meetings with the Greek |Alpha Class |

|dean and making sure that there was plenty of follow through." Alumna Meghan Kate said of Emma "[she] helped| |

|encourage me and the other ladies to proceed with the notion of starting a new sorority. Since...Emma was |Daniela Hock |

|departing for London, I took [her] words and encouragement with extra thought...[she was] right there for |Beta Class |

|every brainstorming session and fun gathering." We are excited to | |

|have these ladies become our honorary members and look forward to holding a ceremony to congratulate them in | |

|the fall. | |
