| |6.1 Need for the study |

| |Today’s economy and competition among hospital have increased the demand placed on the works .The growing demand for |

| |health care services is experienced by almost every country for the last two decades. Due to increase in demand like |

| |emerging drug combination, qualified health professionals, health care system face an increasing number of challenging |

| |factors such as limited financial resources, rising health care cost, increasing health demand and heightened public |

| |expectation.1 |

| |Primary health centre’s are the cornerstone of rural health services-a first part of call to a qualified doctor of the |

| |public sector in rural areas for the sick and those who directly report are referred from sub centres for curative |

| |preventive and promotive health care. A typical primary health centre covers a population of 20,000 in Hilly Tribal or |

| |difficult areas and 30,000 populations in plain areas with 4-6 indoor/observation beds. In the public sector sub-health |

| |centre (Sub Centre) is the most peripheral and first contact between point between the primary health care system and |

| |the community in India public health nursing in the village today is still limited to service rendered by Multipurpose |

| |Health Worker (female) or Auxiliary Nurse Midwives are regarded as the first contact person between people between |

| |consumer and provider. The partnership at community level between frontline workers of different sectors and community |

| |groups can make the vision reality2 .. |

| |Pharmacovigilance has constantly grown in its importance in last 15 years relating to absolute amount of adverse drug |

| |reaction (ADRS) and to fact that several hospital admission are due to the drug reaction and a study done in Manipal |

| |University to assess the knowledge attitude practice of Pharmacovigilance among health care professionals in June 2011. |

| |A total of 255 health care professionals were participated in this study. The investigator had used a suitable self |

| |administered knowledge attitude practice of survey questionnaire to collect the data from the health care professionals |
