Florida Teacher Competency ExamsThe State of Florida requires passage of the Florida Teacher Certification Examination (FTCE) for the attainment of a professional teaching certificate. The FTCE consists of the General Knowledge Exam, the Professional Education Exam, and a Subject Area Exam relevant to the certification area chosen by the student. At Bethune-Cookman University, students are required to pass the General Knowledge (GK) section of the test, demonstrating competency in Mathematics, Reading, Writing, and English Language Skills, prior to formal admittance to the Education programs. Candidates are required to pass the remaining two parts of the FTCE (Professional Education and a subject area exam relevant to certification area) prior to their final senior internship.
