Mission: A multi-faceted, not-for-profit organization committed to promoting the preservation, interpretation and cultural enrichment of the Cape May region for its residents and visitors

B. Cape May Lighthouse (1859)

- Owned by the State of New Jersey (Division of Parks and Forestry, Department of Environmental Protection).

- Leased to MAC in 1986 for 20 years, with MAC assuming complete responsibility for restoration, maintenance, and operation. Lease renegotiated in 1995, with a 24-year term Lease extended for another 10 years, starting in 2019.

- Annual visitation of over 75,000 (2019) who pay to climb, with perhaps as many more visiting the ground floor and Oil House without climbing. Over 2.5 million visitors have climbed the Lighthouse since it opened in 1988.

- Orientation exhibits in the barrier-free Oil House; exhibits throughout the Lighthouse on its structure and operation, the historic Lighthouse Keepers and their duties, and the history of the site and its environs.

- Public programs:

- Undertook two phases of the restoration in 1993-94, funded by grants of $328,640 in ISTEA funds administered by the New Jersey Department of Transportation covering the exterior masonry restoration (including repainting in original colors) of the Lighthouse Tower and $284,805 by the New Jersey Historic Trust covering the complete restoration of the

Lighthouse Lantern.

- Undertook the final phase of restoring the Lighthouse tower in 1997-98, funded by an additional $404,097 from ISTEA and $512,594 from the New Jersey Historic Trust.

- Undertook grounds restoration project in 2000 – 2001.

- Lighthouse Tower repainted in 2017.

- Lighthouse Watch Gallery, Lantern and Roof repainted in 2018.

- Lighthouse staircase to be repainted in the fall of 2020

- Friends of the Lighthouse: Formed 2010; first public programs 2011

C. Carroll Gallery at the Physick Estate (1876); featuring such changing museum exhibits as:

D. World War II Lookout Tower Museum and Memorial (Fire Control Tower No. 23) (1942)

- In 2002, had a detailed Historic Structure Report prepared (by Holt Morgan Russell of Princeton, NJ).

- In 2002, nominated the structure to the National and New Jersey Register of Historic Places. It was listed on the New Jersey Register on May 29, 2003 and on the National Register on November 17, 2003.

- In June 2004, executed a 20-year lease for the structure with the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry, Department of Environmental Protection.

- Undertook restoration of the Tower in 2008-09, with a $600,000 grant from the New Jersey Historic Trust, a $320,400 grant from the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority and a $400,000 Small City Block Grant administered by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.

- Opened the Tower to the public in the Spring of 2009.

- Annual visitation: nearly 10,000 (2018)

- World War II Veterans’ Memorial and Wall of Honor on the third level.

- All Veterans Memorial opened on May 19, 2012.

- Friends of the World War II Tower: Formed and first public program in 2010.
