ACADEMIC/CLUBS

CHESS CLUB

Description: Learning the game of chess culminating with a tournament.

FIRST ROBOTICS

Description: Students design, build, and operate a complete robot from scratch to complete

a given task/game. The task changes each year and the final competition takes

place in March. Anyone with an engineering, programming, or building

interest is encouraged to participate.

INTERACT CLUB

Description: Interact is a youth community service organization sponsored by the Monticello Rotary. Our club participates in several local and world service projects throughout the year. All MHS students may participate in Interact at any time. They have regular meetings on Wednesdays.

KNOWLEDGE BOWL

Description: Compete against other schools in a “high school quiz bowl” program.

MATH TEAM

Description: Students compete in contests with other area high schools. Contest meets involve over 100 participants and are very challenging. Students with exemplary interest and ability in math are encouraged to participate.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY

Description: Students are inducted into NHS in the fall based on GPA, community service, good citizenship, recommendations from teachers, etc.

PROJECT 4 TEENS

Description: Students attend training on healthy relationships. Following the training, students teach lessons about self esteem, healthy relationships, decision making, etc.

PROM COMMITTEE

Description: Students Against Destructive Decisions – This program helps create awareness about the dangers of drinking/drug use and many other destructive decisions.

STUDENT COUNCIL

Description: Student-run organization that represents the student body. The Student Council works on many activities through out the school year: food drive, sock drive, Homecoming, Snow Week, Teacher Appreciation Week, and many more.

Description: This program is comprised of chemically free student leaders (involved in MSHSL activities). The students will lead prevention trainings at the Middle School, in the community, and in other High School organizations.

Description: Teens Against Tobacco Use. This program gives teens the skills to teach younger students about the dangers of tobacco use. Trained students go to elementary schools to teach lessons on tobacco prevention.

ORCHESTRA

VISUAL ARTS

Description: Cross Country is open to grades 7-12. Boys run three miles during 10 meets against other schools - concludes with a state championship meet. Athletes will work up to eight miles per day.

CROSS COUNTRY RUNNING - GIRLS

Description: Cross Country is open to grades 7-12. Girls run two miles during 10 meets against other schools - concludes with a state championship meet. Athletes will work up to six miles per day.

DANCE TEAM

Equipment required: Practice attire, tennis shoes, and dance shoes

Description: Dance Team is open to girls in grades 9-12. There will be a Varsity

Squad and a Junior Varsity Squad. This is a Conference Sport and a

MSHSL sanctioned sport. Girls will compete in High Kick and in

Jazz Funk.

Description: Open to grades 9-12. Football is a popular sport that involves a great deal of contact. It is a sport that involves much physical conditioning so the players can perform at their best. The sport emphasizes the team concept; every player must contribute to team unity in order for the team to be successful.

GOLF - BOYS

Description: The team is a coop with Annandale and Maple Lake. The Moose are supervised by Monticello High School. There are two levels of competition, Varsity and Junior Varsity. Open to grades 9-12.

HOCKEY - GIRLS

Description: Hockey provides an opportunity for the highly skilled athlete to enjoy the sport at a high level of competition. There are two levels of competition, Varsity and Junior Varsity. This team is a coop with Annandale, Monticello, and St. Michael-Albertville .

The North Wright County Riverhawks are supervised by STMA High School. Open to grades 9-12.

BOYS LACROSSE

VOLLEYBALL

Description: Volleyball is an increasingly popular sport for girls in Minnesota. It is a fun, yet very competitive sport to play. We have four high school levels of competition in our school. 9th Grade, B-squad, Junior Varsity and Varsity teams. Open to grades 9-12. Cuts may be necessary.

WRESTLING

Description: The Strength and Conditioning Program provides our students with a supervised fitness program that is PRUDENT, PRODUCTIVE, PRACTICAL, PURPOSEFUL AND POPULAR. The purpose of the program is to provide the student/athlete with an opportunity to learn basic training skills/techniques in strength training and cardiovascular conditioning that will allow one to optimize their fullest physical potential. NO PRIOR TRAINING EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
