Natural Gourd Art Basics

Join gourd artist, Bernadette Burns, and learn to embellish nature to make beautiful gourd art pieces. Beginning students will learn gourd art basics: selecting gourds for specific projects, cleaning and prepping gourds for art, placing designs on gourd, wood burning and painting the design with ink dyes and metallic highlights. Project ideas will be shared in class for all levels of students. A variety of gourd shapes and sizes will be available. Each student will choose a gourd for their project.

NOTE: Materials will include ink dye, metallic ink, gourds, and sealant.

Jewelry Metal Stamping

Add a personal touch to make any day special! Make a custom pendant, bracelet or earrings using a metal stamping technique. No crafting skills necessary! If you can use a hammer, you can learn to make beautiful custom jewelry. This course will introduce students to the basics of metal stamping. Learn the best metals to use, design ideas, basic techniques. You will complete a project of your own design in class! $25 material fee paid to instructor at class for supplies. Jewelry and Metalcraft

Whatever your interest, you will have fun learning the basics, and more, in this on-going jewelry class. Learn how to earn some extra money or make beautiful gifts for someone special. Learn fine-jewelry techniques to construct custom jewelry from copper, bronze, sterling silver and gold. Beginners to advanced learn and practice skills in fabrication, wax carving, introduction to casting, and stone setting. Beginning levels are project-oriented with various jewelry items. The supplies needed vary depending upon the projects and materials you select.

NOTE: No class Feb 17. Students must bring safety glasses if they do not wear prescription glasses.

Precious Metal Clay - Silver

Learn to work with this unique medium while creating 2 or 3 pendants (depending on size) or earrings or several charms. All molds will be available for use in the class. Once the piece you create is completed and fired, only the metal will be left. In this class we will work with silver clay. The nice thing about the silver clay is that it only takes one day to complete your projects. You will leave the class with your newly-created pieces. No experience necessary.

Authentic Stained Glass for Beginners

Come join us and learn the skilled art of authentic stained glass. This is an exciting class in learning the Tiffany style process. No experience necessary. You'll learn to cut 40 pieces of glass and grind them to fit into a beautiful Hummingbird oval panel to proudly hang up for display or give as a wonderful gift when you are finished. This is the same process Louis Comfort Tiffany developed for his spectacular Tiffany lamps. Download the supply list for items to bring to class. Other tools and equipment are provided in class.

NOTE: Bring to first class safety glasses, old clothes and wear closed-toe shoes, a glass cutter, scissors and glue stick. Ask for a supply list or go to mjc.edu/commed.

This class is for those who have taken the beginning class with Wizzi and want to continue working on other projects of their choice. You must have taken a beginning class from Wizzi in order to register for this class. The class will be held at the same time as the beginning class. Working and Creating with Resin

In this class we will reach beyond the basics of working with resin for jewelry and Made by student, Carla Lytle mixed media. You will create unique resin-filled bezels and resin papers and learn to work with variations and inclusions. Feel free to bring a selection of elements that you would like to include in your piece (can include new pieces, tiny bits of broken jewelry, watches, watch parts, etc.) whatever teenie bits of creativity inspire you. Learn to Paint with Acrylics

Come learn how to use this versatile type of art medium in a relaxed environment. Acrylics are very easy to work with, clean up with water, and are very forgiving if you make a mistake. Acrylic art can mimic oils to watercolors depending upon the thickness you desire. You will learn about brushes, tools, paper, canvas and other surfaces you can decorate with your art. All levels of students welcome.

Watercolor Landscapes

You can paint beautiful watercolor landscapes once the important elements are learned. Artist Diana Isho will teach how to paint skies, grass, water, trees and mountains. Learn to work with shadows and light, color, contour lines and play with texture to make stone, grasses and wood.
