Ledyard Parks and Recreation Summer Staff

COORDINATORS

Cara Bowles

Cara has been working summers with Ledyard Parks and Recreation since 2007, and is thrilled to be back again this summer! She has worked as a Leader at Preschool and as a Coordinator. Cara is a certified Early Childhood Education Teacher and spent this last academic year teaching preschool at Gallup Hill School. She is also the Assistant Swim Coach for Ledyard High Schools girls and boys teams. Cara stays busy in the summer months working camp, training for Swim Across America, and catching up with family and friends.

Courtney Parke

Courtney just graduated from the University of New Haven with a major in Business Management. She has worked at Ledyard Parks and Recreation since 2007, she was a Leader at Colonel Ledyard Park for two summers, and this is her first year as a coordinator. Courtney enjoys working with children and is excited to make this year the best of all.

COORDINATOR

Brittany Littlefield

Brittany is a Junior at Eastern Connecticut State University and is majoring in Psychology in Children and Youth. This is her fifth year at Parks and Recreation, and her first year as the Popcorn Kernels Coordinator. During the school year she volunteers for the Sister to Sister Program though Windham High School. Brittany is thrilled for this year at camp, and is determined to make it the best year yet!

LEADER

Jade Huguenot

Jade is a Sophomore at UConn who is majoring in Human Development and Family Studies. This is her second summer at Ledyard Parks and Recreation. She loves performing arts, hiking and funny jokes! She loves working with kids because they tend to know the best jokes of all!

ASSISTANTS

Allison Gardner

Ali just graduated from Ledyard High School with highest honors. She has been working for Parks and Rec with the 4-6 year olds for three years and was a volunteer in 2010. She will be attending Storrs UConn in the fall and hopes to work with children in the future for her career.

Max DeMaio

Max is a Junior at Ledyard High School. This is his second year working with Ledyard Parks and Recreation. He enjoys running, playing his guitar, and hanging out with friends. Max likes working with kids and enjoys spending time with kids outside of camp, whether it’s a guitar lesson, babysitting, or even on the playground.

Megan Comstock

Megan graduated from Ledyard High School in 2012 and played soccer for the Colonels. She is currently a sophomore at Endicott College in Beverly, MA.  She is studying to be a nurse and working for a minor in Psychology. This will be Megan's fifth summer at Ledyard Parks and Recreation! She began as a volunteer for two years, and has been a counselor ever since. 

Sharon Butler

This is Sharon’s second year working as a counselor at the Popcorn Kernel camp. She is married and has two daughters who attend Ledyard High School. She works part time as a Preschool Teacher at her church. Sharon hopes to obtain her Masters in Education at the University of New Haven. Her interests include gardening, reading, spending time with friends, and watching movies with friends or family.

Alex Lawrence

Alex will be a Senior at Norwich University this fall and is currently on the wrestling team there. He is studying Psychology and Elementary Education in hopes to become a teacher. He enjoys fishing and working out. This is Alex’s second summer as a counselor at the Popcorn Kernels camp.

Kira Ryan

Kira is a senior at Ledyard High School. She participates in the music program and plays tennis. Kira was a volunteer at the Preschool camp in 2011, and has worked as a counselor every summer since.

Lori Dononvan

Lori is a Senior at Ledyard High School. She is a passionate individual that loves camp! She will make sure each child has the best day at camp everyday. She is very active at Ledyard High School and enjoys being on-the-go!

The Colonels Staff

LEADERS

Diane McCarthy

Diane worked for Ledyard Parks and Recreation for several years. She worked as a Leader last summer at the Popcorn Kernel camp and is excited to be a Leader at Ledyard Center School. She insists that this is in her top 3 favorite job experiences. Diane has her BS in Elementary Education and MA in Psychology. Diane has worked as an Outdoor Ed. Instructor, Psychotherapist, Nanny, and Gymnastics Instructor.

Eric Bowles

Eric has been working for Ledyard Parks and Recreation for four summers. He is excited to return as a Leader this year. He recently studied vocal performance/opera at New England Conservatory and has been an usher for many years at the Garde Arts Theatre in New London. Eric is a Ledyard High School graduate where he sang in many ensembles and was a varsity member of the cross country and indoor and outdoor track teams.

Krista Grimes

Krista graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education. During the school year she works as a Special Education Paraprofessional at Fields Memorial School in Bozrah. She also works part time for a local catering company through out the year. She has worked for Ledyard Parks and Recreation for three years as a Playground Assistant. This year will be her first year as a Playground Leader. During her time of leisure she prefers to engage in activities such as going to the beach, going to concerts, spending time with family and friends, and cooking.

ASSISTANTS

Amy Knight

Amy is coming back to Parks and Recreation for her second year as a counselor, and she volunteered two summers ago. She swims for Ledyard High School and throws shot-put for the Outdoor Track team. She'll be a senior next year, and plans to continue on to college the year after to major in Psychology. She enjoys working at Parks and Recreation and hopes to continue working for Parks and Recreation for many summers to come.

Allyson Loy

Allyson is going into her Junior year at Hofstra University where she majors in Biology. She enjoys practicing yoga, listening to music, and playing with her dog. This will be her second summer working for Ledyard Parks and Recreation.

Dylan Bagg

Dylan is a Junior at Ledyard High School. This is his second year at Ledyard Parks and Recreation; he was a volunteer last summer at the Super Colonels camp. He likes playing sports and enjoys helping out other people as well. He is excited for camp this year.

Emme Cronin

Emme is a rising Junior at Ledyard High School. This is her second year with playground camp, first as a counselor. She enjoys sports and is on the cross country, wrestling, and track team. Emme lives on a farm and is in the agri-science program at her school. She enjoys reading for fun and to learn.

Justine Wheeler

Justine is a high school student, going into her Senior year at Ledyard High School. She runs cross country during the school year and is in multiple choruses. Justine also works as the page at the Bill Library. She has been working for Ledyard Parks and Recreation for three years (one year of volunteering). When she was a child, she attended Ledyard’s summer camps. Justine aspires to be a child psychologist after college.

Matt VanVolkenburg

Matt is a Junior at Ledyard High School. This is his first year at Parks and Recreation. He likes volunteering with the National Honor Society as well as working with children. He is excited for camp and is willing to make this the best summer for the kids yet!

LEADERS

Ann-Marie Booth

Ann-Marie is a mother of five. She works at Ledyard High School as a Para-Professional. Ann-Marie has fifteen years of experience in Playground Programs. She enjoys cooking and reading. She also loves working with children as well!

Claire Scott

Claire has just graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education. She is eagerly on the look out for a full time music teaching job but in the mean time she is a member of the Waterford Community Band and has just finished teaching a year at the Connecticut Chinese Language Academy as the small instrumental ensemble director. Claire enjoys working with students in and out of the music classroom. Having started as a counselor for Ledyard Parks and Recreation in 2011, this is Claire's third year working at Summer Playground and her second year as a Playground Leader!

Jillian Comstock

Jillian is a Junior nursing student at the University of Saint Joseph. During the year she also works part time at Valentino's. Jillian has been associated with the Ledyard Parks and Recreation program since attending camp in the second grade. Jillian volunteered one year and this will be her fifth year with the program, and her first year as a Leader.

ASSISTANTS

Ben Bruciati

Ben has just graduated from high school and plans to attend UConn Storrs, for Civil Engineering. Ben has been working with Parks and Recreation for about four years as a volunteer, counselor, a basketball referee, etc. Ben is very good at both soccer and track, which he played during high school. Ben is also looking forward to having a great summer with the kids.

Dayton Bagg

Dayton will be attending Uconn this fall. He has worked at the Super Colonels camp for two years now and was a camper for seven years. He played Soccer and ran Track for Ledyard High School. He is interested in becoming a Civil Engineer and is looking forward to another great year working as a Camp Counselor.

Greg Knight

Greg is currently studying Math Education at UConn. At UConn he stays busy with the UConn Future Educators Club and plays on many intramural teams. He loves to play games outside such as frisbee, football, dodge ball, and four square. He also loves to spend time on and around boats. If he could, he'd eat his favorite food, an omelet, for every meal. 

Jessica Monday

Jessica has just graduated from Ledyard High School. In the fall she will be attending Colby-Sawyer College in New Hampshire to get her degree as an athletic trainer and her certificate as a coach. She has been working with the Ledyard Parks and Recreation Summer Playground as a Playground Assistant for the past two years. This will be her third year and she is looking forward to it.

Patricia Elliot

Patricia is currently a Senior at Ledyard High School. In late August she will be attending college to earn a degree in Psychology as a Child Therapist/Family Therapist. She enjoys being around kids and can’t wait to be helping them and working with them after she earns her degree. She likes to read and run at the beach, as well as swim. She feels she can learn as much from the children this summer as they can learn from her.

Rachel Davies

Rachel has just graduated high school and is attending Johnston & Wales University this fall for a double major in Accounting and Finance. Rachel works as a server at Stoneridge, in Mystic and has been working for Parks and Recreation for a few years now as a counselor, basketball coach, soccer assistant, and basketball referee commissioner. Rachel was a volunteer in 2010, and this will be her third summer working as a counselor. Rachel enjoys coming to work everyday and making summer camp fun.
