MEASURE R PASSES

By Anthony Davila, Assistant Principal

Los Angeles Unified School District voters approve Measure R, a $3.87 billion local school bond measure on the March 2004 ballot. Measure R will help reduce overcrowding and continue to repair and upgrade aging schools. Measure R will also continue the progress the District has already made: nearly 100 new schools and expansion projects have been completed or are under construction with more than 100 to come, almost 10,000 repair projects are either complete or underway throughout the District, and student test scores are steadily improving.

Olive Vista’s Measure R School Site Committee members, Judy Potthast, Chile Nakamura, Anthony Davila, Claudia Bolanos, and Ginger Casper (pictured above) extend a thank you to parents who voted yes on Measure R to support our schools.

TECH TIPS

Is the magnetic field protecting the Earth from deadly radiation about to reverse direction or disappear? Today, scientists are beginning to worry if the magnetic storm is a harbinger of things to come for the Earth’s magnetic field. Get online to visit and find out about the major meteorological events that can influence our daily lives. For instance, a magnetic storm strong enough to disrupt power grids from Canada to New York occurred last year. In fact researchers suggest that the most serious power grid failure in American history was caused by a magnetic storm in the Earth’s upper atmosphere.
