Another week in the books!! #TeamSauganash dominated Week 9 with our Halloween Spirit Week, getting through the many inches of rain, completing assessments, and wrapping up 1st Quarter in style. We have four days left in quarter one next week, make them count!!

We are very excited we moved our Trunk or Treat to Monday. This allows our students another day of fun & dress up! Please see the

flyer below for Monday's free PTO event.

A rainy week concluded with some cold temps in the future. Please please make sure our students come to school dressed appropriately.

We will continue to go outside everyday for recess so jackets, sweatshirts, hats, etc are going to be needed moving forward.

Please be on the look out for information from your child's teacher about conferences on Nov 17th. We will be holding parent teacher

conferences from 8am-3pm in a hybrid fashion. We will have in person opportunities in the morning from 8am-11am, with virtual options from 11:45-3pm. With parent portal and your child's beginning of the year assessment data being sent home you will have the option to bypass conferences as well. All Quarter 1 report cards will be sent home in your child's backpack (Quarter 1 ends Nov 4th). Please be on

the lookout for this information in the coming weeks.

Our Kiss & Go will continue to get more crowded as temperatures get colder. It is super important you stay in your car

if you are using our Kiss & Go locations, we have staff that will help your children out of the car. Additionally, we cannot have cars park on the opposite side of the street and try and walk across during the traffic flow. This can be super dangerous as parents/cars are not expecting students to cross there, but rather

at cross walk areas. This is for the safety of everyone!

Parents please encourage your children to wear washable masks. The disposal ones break very easily and as a school we have been giving out over 1,000 disposable ones since school

started.

Dear CPS Families,

As October draws to a close, we are continuing to see hopeful signs with regard to the pandemic. Our health and safety protocols--face masks, social distancing, regular handwashing, COVID-19 testing, and vaccinations--are keeping case numbers in our schools low. And with the approval of the COVID-19 vaccine for five to eleven-year-olds by the Food and Drug Administration this week, we will be able to protect even more of our students and staff from infection.

The number of COVID-19 cases among CPS students and staff remains low. The number of staff and students who are in quarantine or isolation due to the virus is also trending down, which means that more of our children and the educators who support them are in the classroom where they belong.

The district's testing program is continuing to ramp up. Out of more than 21,000 tests administered across 494 schools last week, just 0.24% came back positive. We're also seeing vaccination rates climb among staff and students. 89% of CPS staff is fully vaccinated, and any staff member that is unvaccinated is being tested weekly to keep our school communities safe.

The best news of all is that vaccinations for five to eleven-year-olds have been recommended by the FDA and will be available to CPS students soon. CPS is launching a comprehensive plan to increase all student vaccination rates, including for those children who can be vaccinated against COVID-19 right now. As of this week, 46.7% of CPS students twelve and older have been vaccinated, with more rolling up their sleeves every single day. This is a good start, but we want to see that number rise more quickly. I urge parents of students in this age group who have not yet had their children vaccinated to do so right away, before younger children become eligible and demand for the vaccine grows. Visit cps.edu/covid for information on where to get the vaccine right now.

The first step in our vaccination campaign will be getting you, our families, the information you need to assure you that COVID vaccines are safe and effective for your children. We want you to hear the facts from people you trust, including your child's teachers, and respected medical professionals in your communities. We understand that nothing is more important to you than the health and safety of your children, and we want you to feel fully comfortable with taking this crucial step to protect your child and your family.

We also want accessing the COVID-19 vaccine to be as simple as possible for families, so we will be making it available through regional vaccination centers inside four CPS high schools, as well as through mobile vaccine units and school-based health centers. In addition, thanks to our district's many partnerships, CPS students will be able to access the COVID-19 vaccine from a number of private and community-based medical providers throughout the city.

I thank you for your continued trust during this unusual school year. I look forward to sharing more updates on how we are managing the pandemic, and on all the ways we will work to get CPS students vaccinated in the weeks and months ahead.

A Message from CPS Chief Safety & Security Officer

Dear Colleagues and Families,

With Halloween approaching, we wanted to share some quick safety reminders as our community plans for this weekend's events.

Please remind your children or students of the safety precautions below. These are good to follow at all times, but especially on Halloween: Travel in pairs or small groups whenever possible. If children are traveling unaccompanied (without a trusted adult), please make sure that they stay in communication with their parents/guardians during this time and do periodic check-ins (by phone). If you feel uncomfortable or threatened in any way, go to the nearest business or populated area and call for help. Costumes should include reflective tape to make sure you are visible to cars. Stick to well-lit streets and always use the sidewalk. Stay alert while crossing the street and while walking in parking lots--cars might have a hard time seeing you when it's dark. If you are driving, remember to stay alert and watch for pedestrians crossing the street.

We want to ensure that all of our children are able to have fun this Halloween, but it is critical that we support them in participating in safe activities. Please prepare a plan with your children in advance so that you are aware of their whereabouts, in case they need emergency support from you while they are out.

Sincerely,

Jadine Chou Chief Safety and Security Officer Chicago Public Schools
