Eisenhower PTA Committee List 2016-2017

ARTS IN USC Chair – 1

The USCPTC sponsors a creative art competition for all grade levels. This committee distributes flyers to students and submits the entries to the USCPTC Arts in USC committee for judging.

AUDITOR Chair – 1

This committee conducts a monthly audit of the PTO bookkeeping records.

BIRTHDAY BOOK CLUB Chair- 1

Throughout the year, this committee coordinates the purchase and presentation of books to the students for their birthdays based on parent orders. The books are placed in the library in honor of the student. The committee chairperson works with the school librarian for book suggestions.

BOX TOPS Chair – 1

This committee distributes flyers to advertise the program, collects the box tops and redeems them.

BOOK FAIR Chair – 2

In the fall and spring, a book sale takes place during school hours and at Open House and STAR Night. This committee arranges the sale through a book company. Responsibilities include setup, assisting students during the sale, distributing ordered books and packing unsold books after the sale is completed.

BOOK SWAP Chair –2

To coordinate the collection and distribution of gently used books from the student body.

CULTURAL ARTS Chair – 1

Volunteers work with the Principal and Staff to organize fun events, programs and experiences during the week. Past themes for the week have included Colonial Times, Eisenhower Tours the World, Africa, Careers in the Arts, and Languages Around the World.

EISENHOWER EXTRAS Chair – 2

Provides after school activities and programs. The committee selects the programs, arranges for instruction and rooms, distributes flyers, handles registration and solicits volunteers to monitor the halls during the programs.

EISENHOWLER – 1 advisor/mentor chair and 1 co-chair

In the fall, the PTO sponsors a fun-filled family evening at the school. The school is transformed into a giant indoor bazaar. Lots of games, a silent auction and delicious food are available. The co-chair position is a two-year term with the 1st year as co-chair and the 2nd year as an advisor/mentor chair. The chairpersons’ coordinate setting up sub-committee chairpersons to organize and run specific activities and perform specific duties. Subcommittees include recruiting volunteers, set up, ticket sales, dinner, games, auctions and clean up.

Subcommittees:

Games Chair – 2

Choose games and prizes for the ‘Howler. Also responsible for the set-up and take down of all games.

Dinner Chair – 2

Coordinate with a vendor to supply food, choose pricing and serve food during the ‘Howler.

Silent Auction Chair – 2

Contact vendors for donations, set up the donations, display and/or announce winners on the night of the ‘Howler.

Baskets Chair – 2

Coordinate donations among the classes, assemble and display baskets for the night of the ’Howler. Also responsible to get the baskets to the winners, either that night or the following week.

Volunteer Coordinator Chair – 2

Coordinate volunteers for the games, serving food, set-up and take down.

Tickets Chair – 2

Coordinate the presale and evening ticket and/or wristband sales.

Cake Walk Chair – 2

Create and distribute flyers asking for donations of bakery items for the very popular cake walk game.

Decorations Chair – 2

Decoration and clean up of decorations on the night of the ‘Howler.

Guessing Jars Chair-1

Coordinate volunteers to create guessing jars with various items to be won on the night of the ‘Howler.

FAMILY EVENTS (3 sub-committees)

Bingo Chair – 2

Organize food, flyer, game boards and prizes. Other tasks include soliciting volunteers, distributing flyers and overseeing the event.

Reading Night Chair – 2

Coordinate a themed reading night for students and their families. Reading rooms will correspond to the evening’s theme. Also responsible for organizing the students into their preferred rooms. Other tasks include soliciting volunteers, distributing flyers, and overseeing the event.

Pirate Game Chair – 1 (4th grade parent)

This committee coordinates with music teacher and Pittsburgh Pirates a date for the fourth grade chorus to perform the National Anthem.  Duties are to publicize the game, sell tickets, create deposit of payments, assign seating, distribute tickets/directions, and attend game. 

FIELD DAY Chair – 2

This is a day of outdoor games in late spring. This committee works with the Physical Education teacher to plan and implement activities and games for the day. It also solicits and organizes volunteers to supervise games. The committee provides refreshments.

FIELD DAY - KINDERGARTEN Chair – 2 (1 morning chair, 1 afternoon chair)

This is a morning and afternoon of outdoor games and activities just for the kindergarten children. This committee works with the Physical Education teacher to design and implement the activities. This committee also solicits kindergarten parent volunteers to supervise and conduct the games. This event takes place in late spring.

FOURTH LEVEL FAREWELL Chair –2

This committee plans a special farewell party for the fourth level students. Responsibilities include ordering t-shirts and plan a swimming party in late May.

FOURTH LEVEL MEMORY BOOK Chair – 1

Create a memory book to be given to the fourth graders at year-end. If you like scrap booking, this is for you!

HOLIDAY MART Chair – 2

In early December, the children are given an opportunity to do their own holiday shopping for family and friends. This committee is responsible for ordering and/or purchasing gift items, pricing gifts, scheduling shopping, distributing flyers, recruiting volunteers to assist shoppers, set up and clean up.

LEVEL BREAKFASTS Chair – 1 (One chair per grade level)

Breakfasts by grade level for children and parents. The committee distributes flyers, arranges for the food and organizes set up/clean up.

LEVEL SOCIALS Chair – 1 (One chair per grade level)

Each grade level has an evening social for children and parents. The committee is responsible for implementing entertainment, distributing flyers, registering families, arranging for refreshments and set-up/clean up.

MEMBERSHIP Chair – 2

This committee recruits members in September. Tasks include collecting dues, keeping the membership roster, preparing necessary forms for various levels of PTO and distributing membership cards and calendars.

100th DAY OF SCHOOL Chair – 1

Parent volunteers work with the Principal and Staff to celebrate this important day in in late January/early February. They also provide a uniform gift or treat.

OPEN HOUSE Chair – 1

In September, parents are invited to school to meet teachers and other parents. The teachers provide information regarding the curriculum, activities and what are expected of students and parents. This committee is responsible for providing a bottle of water a plant and a nametag for each teacher.

OUTREACH Chair – 2

This committee plans and implements philanthropic projects during the year. Examples include food drives, mitten collection and more.

PICTURE DAY Chair – 1

This committee obtains list of parents available to assist with Picture Day in the fall and spring.  Assign a total of 8-12 volunteers to assist with time slots throughout the duration of Picture Day.  Coordinate classrooms, distribute cards/tickets to students and serves as liaison with LifeTouch. 

PROGRAMS Chair – 1

A large portion of the PTO budget is spent on providing quality programs for the children. This committee screens and selects the programs, and then coordinates dates and times of the presentations with the principal.

ROOM PARENT & PARTY COORDINATORS Chair – 1

This group oversees all room parents (this is not signing up for individual class room parents) and class parties including the Harvest Party, December Winter Party, Valentine’s Day social and end of year party. They recruit and meet with room parents to go over guidelines and ideas for activities during parties.

SPIRIT WEAR Chair – 1

This committee arranges for a sale of USC merchandise in the fall and the spring. Responsibilities include contacting a clothing supplier, distributing flyers, setting up a clothing display for parents and students to view, placing orders, and distributing the merchandise.

SPELLING BEE Chair – 1

This committee enrolls Eisenhower into the bee (no later than October), coordinates the pre-test for 4th graders and then runs the Eisenhower Spelling Bee in early spring using the guidelines of the official Spelling Bee website.

STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK Chair – 2

Celebrated in the spring, volunteers are needed for activities scheduled to show appreciation to our teachers and staff throughout the week.

WELCOMING COMMITTEE Chair – 1

In early September, a breakfast is held for families who are new to Eisenhower. Information about the school and the PTO is presented at this event. This committee sends out invitations and arranges for refreshments. There is also a district wide picnic that is coordinated with other schools.

WELCOME BACK TEACHER LUNCHEON Chair – 1

In late August, a lunch is held for teachers and staff to start the school year. This committee arranges for donations of food and sets up and cleans up.
