MS.URQUHART'S CLASS

Dear Malaspina Families,I am Mrs. Laupitz and I have the pleasure of teaching Music at Malaspina Elementary. I am missing seeing the students for our weekly Music lessons, so I have compiled some music activities that students can do at home. In unsettling times, the arts can be a way of relieving stress and expressing the various emotions that we may be feeling. I know that learning time is going to be different than what we are used to. The activities that I am giving you are for students to complete when they have time - they can choose what they would like to do and when they would like to complete them.I am including information about a website, MusicPlay Online, which correlates with the MusicPlay program that we use at school. The website is currently free for students to use and has songs, games, and other music activities, some of which will be familiar to students as we have used them in our music lessons at school. There are also weekly online lessons listed on the left side of the page as well as themed units. For intermediate students with a recorder or ukulele at home, there are lessons for those instruments. Feel free to explore and play! Another fun website to try is . Here students can create their own compositions, breaking it down into different beats and sounds, all while learning what instruments create the sounds they are working with. The other activities included in this package are fun things that can be printed off to complete at home. For the MUSIC Challenges, colour in the square of each activity completed– if possible, try to complete 1-2 of the activities per week.If you have any questions or would like to contact me, you can reach me at my email (claupitz@sd57.bc.ca). I will be available Tuesday to Friday during regular school hours. If students would like to share a picture of a project/assignment, or share a video of a song that they have sung, they can send it to my email – I would love to see what they have been working on! I hope this finds you all well and hope that you all stay safe. I wish everyone the best in their continued learning adventures.Sincerely,Mrs. C. Laupitz – Music Teacher, Malaspina ElementaryThe column down the right is the fun listening games. The left column has online learning lessons, the recorder unit and Ukulele/ Guitar units (if students have an instrument at home).Students are free to explore and have fun. They will be able to find many of the songs we learn in class on the website. Encourage your child to sing-a-long with the recordings. Please contact me at claupitz@sd57.bc.ca if you have any questions, concerns, or are needing help with the website etc.Music ChallengesChoose at least 2 challenges a week.
