Maine Yukon Day Ranger Kids Events
Outdoor Activities
1. Snowman making contest
Be prepared to build! We will be supplying carrots, cookies, licorice, and other fun items to decorate the snowmen that you will be building, but be aware of the time. We will be timing you as you build these snowmen. May the fastest, most creative team win the snowmen building contest.
2. BB Guns
Ready, Aim, Fire! A shooting range will be set up for you to shoot BB Guns, and you may want to keep track of your points as you shoot. The highest shooter will win a prize.
3. Decorate snowmen with paintballs
Part of the snowman building contest includes creating a circle, cross, or star on the snowmen. Be prepared to man a paintball gun later in the day to put the finishing touches on your snowmen.
4. Who will make the fastest cup of hot cocoa?
Three fires will be set up, and each time must work together to prepare a cup of hot cocoa. The judges will decide which hot cocoa is the sweetest and hottest cup of cocoa. Make it your goal to please your judge.
5. Relay race
A relay race will be set up with a variety of obstacles that each boy must conquer. You will have to wait and see what is ahead of you concerning this aspect of the day.
6. Sled Race with the dog sleds
A tradition of Maine Yukon Day is the dog sled race. Each team will participate by racing to see which dog sled is the fastest. (You will want to make a dog sled for your Ranger Kids. The sled does not have to be large, but it should be capable of carrying one boy during the relay race. The boys will also need to have their hot cocoa packets on their sled as well as their supplies for making their snowmen.)
7. Best looking sled contest
Yet another tradition of Maine Yukon Day is the best looking dog sled. There will be a variety of judges that will judge your sled so be sure to decorate your sled with a prize in mind.
8. Snowball throwing
Bring those pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters that you have been saving all year long; you will need them for this event. Before we start our events we are going to talk about the missionary that we support. As one of our events, you will be able to throw a snowball in a bucket, but each snowball is worth five cents. This money will go to the missionary that we will discuss.
Indoor Activities
1. Bean bag toss
During the day we will be alternating outdoor activities with indoor activities. A fun activity that we have been doing the last couple of years has been the bean bag toss. Each one of you will get a change to throw the bean bag. You may want to ask where the bean bags came from; look for Commander Philbrick he will explain.
2. Bubble gum chewing contest
Get your teeth ready! You will receive gum, and we will see who can blow the biggest, stickiest bubble.
3. Remote control race car track
Put on your helmets and get ready to race your cars! We will set up a race track in the gym for the boys to race remote controls.
4. Maple syrup with snow
Who doesn’t love a snack? We will be heating up maple syrup and pouring it on cold snow for a tasty treat that young people used to do during the Frontier Days of America.
5. S’Mores
We will need to take a break from our strenuous competitions and enjoy a s’more. These s’mores will be cooked over the fire in the gymn.
6. Supporting our Missionary
We will have a trifold set up with photos and information concerning the missionary we are supporting for the day. The most important aspect of Maine Yukon Day is the Lord and his work. I want the boys to understand that Christ is at the center of
everything we do. The first thing that we will do for the day will be to discuss our missionary.
7. Learn our verse
Throughout the day the boys will learn phrases from the verse that we will be memorizing for the day.
8) We will need more snacks during the day so the popcorn machine will be running all day.
9) Dart Gun ( shoot targets )
You will have to shoot targets in their proper order to explain an event in the Bible. Be sharp, ready and don’t give up.
10) We will be making a Ranger kids patrol flag
Be ready to think of some cool ideas for your flag
11) Ranger Kids award time .
There will be awards for Scripture Memorization as well as each event that will be presented to the ranger kids .
