ESTAR: To be (feelings)
To say how someone is feeling, use the form of ESTAR that fits with the person you are talking about.
I am = _________________________ The girls are= __________________________
My friends and I are =____________________________
THEN
You make the feeling word match in gender and number with whoever you are describing:
O, A, OS, AS, or E/ ES.
The girl is tired. _______________________________________________
The boys are calm. _________________________________________________
My friends and I are excited! ______________________________________
The men are sad. __________________________________________________________

ESTAR: To be (locations)
To say where someone is RIGHT NOW, you can use the verb ESTAR. Conjugate ESTAR for the person you are talking about, then add the word “EN” for “in,” then add the place.
1. The boys are in the cafeteria. _____________________________________________________________
2. We are in the gym. ________________________________________________________________________
3. Are you in the principal’s office? _________________________________________________________________________
You also use ESTAR to tell where items are located: Just say the item, then the form of estar, then the preposition, then the other item:
The pencil is on top of the desk. = El lápiz está encima del escritorio.
Fun fact: De +el = del ( when you have de and el next to each other, they combine to make DEL.
1. The book is next to the pen. ___________________________________________________________________
2. The paper is inside of the notebook. ___________________________________________________________________
3. The pens are inside the backpack. ___________________________________________________________________
4. My pencil is far from my desk. ___________________________________________________________________
5. Your backpack is under your desk. ___________________________________________________________________

The verb IR = TO GO
(usually followed by ‘a’)
The verb IR is not pronounced “-i-r.” It is pronounced “ear” like what you use to hear! Ir means “to go.”
A form of IR is usually followed by the letter “a” because “a” means “to” and usually when we use the word “go” or “going” we are saying “go to” or “going to.”
If the word after the A is feminine, you are going to have A LA (place.)
Ex: We go/ are going to the cafeteria = Nosotros vamos a la cafetería.
If the word after the A is masculine, you are going to have A +EL which becomes AL.
For example: I am going to the bathroom = Yo voy a el baño = Yo voy al baño.
I go to Spanish class = Yo voy a la clase de español.
They go to class. Ellos van a la clase.
1. I go to school. ____________________________________________________
2. We go/ are going to the office. ___________________________________________________
3. Are they going (they go) to the hallway? _________________________________________________________
4. John is going (goes) to the cafeteria. ____________________________________________________________
5. Are they going (they go) to the party? _____________________________________________________________
6. We have to go to the library. _________________________________________________________________
7. At 3:00 pm, I go to my house. _________________________________________________________
You can also use IR + A plus a not-conjugated verb to say what someone is going to do.
Ex: I am going to read = Yo voy a leer.
8. We are going to practice. ____________________________________________________
9. They are going to listen to music. ____________________________________________
10. Are you going to study today? ____________________________________________
