|Masses this week: |After three weeks away it is time to return and pick up the threads of our parish life. This is the main holiday |

| |period and I do hope for all on holiday that your plans are fulfilled and that you have happy and restful breaks. |

|The Assumption | |

| |My travels to the west coast of the USA have been so enlightening and given me experiences that I never thought |

| |were possible. California continues to suffer from the severe drought now continuing for over four years. The |

|Sat 8th - 6.00pm |State is arid, and yet I was able to see and learn something of the native flora there. This was contrasted with |

|Isabella Darmoo Well-being |Colorado which has been exceptionally wet this year and is still green. The flora there is completely different |

| |from California and the East Coast. So much learnt, so much seen. Denver, called ‘Mile High city’ since it is one|

|Sun 9th - 11.00am |mile above sea level. Gosh! |

|People of the Parish | |

| |Three different parishes visited too and ‘Our Lady of the Pines’ in Colorado Springs is engaging with plans |

|Tues 11th - 9.15am |similar to ours of building and renewing our parish family. Our plans must continue to unfold, and our prayer life|

| |develop and grow if it is to be effective. |

|Fri 14th - 10.00am | |

|Jessie and Francis Flower R.I.P. |I remind you of the ongoing Prayer Group in the Jurgens Centre on Tuesdays – and the call for further Rosary |

| |groups. Let’s see how we can make these groups central to our prayer life. |

|Sat 15th - 6.00pm | |

|Pat Kellett R.I.P. |As I’m sure you have been reading, the first weekend of September is a real focus for beginning our new season, |

| |surrounding the Feast of St Cuthbert. See details overleaf of our Parish Family Social on Saturday 5th September. |

|Sun 16th - 11.00am | |

|Lisa Stone Intention |We shall also launch Family Groups that weekend, which will be a way of strengthening our communities and a way of |

| |building our social life, offering support locally. One of our aims in doing this is to enable all of us to know |

| |our neighbour, and so build the Body of Christ. |

| | |

|St John’s |Next Sunday we keep the Solemnity of the Assumption of our Lady. Masses for the Solemnity (15th) as transferred. |

| | |

| |Baptisms |

|Sun 9th - 9.15am |We celebrate Baptisms next Sunday too. |

|Mansur Ahmad R.I.P. |At 11.00am Mass: |

| |Benjamin Morris, Grabrian Gerard Tallent, Samuel Crabb, Aoife Woodland. |

|Mon 10th - 10.00am |At 12.30: |

|Adhere & Court Families |Seren Stallwood, Samuel Benett, Bruce Taylor |

| | |

|Thurs 13th - 7.30pm |Feasts this week: |

| |Monday – St Lawrence |

|Fri 14th - 7.30pm |Tuesday – Mem, St Clare |

|Holy Hour |Friday – Mem, St Maximillian Kolbe |

| | |

|Sat 15th - 10.00am |Please keep our young people in your prayers too at this time as they receive their public exam results. They will|

| |be making important decisions with their families in these days. We look forward to hearing all your results. |

|Sun 16th - 9.15am |Fr Hugh |

|People of the Parish | |

| |Lourdes Fundraising | |

| |A big thank you to those who have contributed in any way| |

| |to the Lourdes fundraising activities this year. | |

| |£43,000 has been collected, which means many sick, frail| |

| |and disabled people were able to go to France this year.| |

| |Be assured you will be prayed for, in Thanksgiving, for | |

| |your help and generosity. | |
