CHICKENS FOR NZIGEHelping our partner school in Nzige, Rwanda! In February 2018 four P4K staff spent a week in Nzige conducting teacher training and getting to know the children and teachers at our partner school. When asked what the children need most, an Nzige teacher responded, “They arrive at school hungry, some having walked for hours to get here. How can they learn when they are hungry?” The P4K team learned that many of these children have only one meal per day, usually in the evening. The teachers and parents at the school dream of developing a chicken project so that each of the children learning at the Nzige Free Methodist School can have 2 boiled eggs per week to improve their health and thus their learning. The families of the school children have recently given of their time and resources to build a chicken coop and P4K would like to help them fill the coop! It will cost about $1300.00 to buy the chickens and the feed for a year. Your child’s classroom/program will be doing some fun activities this summer to promote learning about chickens, getting to know about our Nzige friends and raising funds for the chicken coop.Want to hear/see more about our partnership with Nzige? Go to the Linked with Love Facebook page to see pictures of the P4K team’s recent trip as well as other events and pictures from past trips.Fun Summer ExperiencesOn Tuesday, July 10 we will have a special visitor, Mrs. Kim LaCelle, a local science teacher and Pearce Church member. Kim and her husband raise chickens and she will bring some of her chicks for the children to see. Kim has also been to the Nzige School (2016) and will share some of her experiences with the children. We will have a “chicken coop” graph that will chart how many chickens we have raised funds for each week – and we may even have some friendly competition between the Day Care, Junior Camp and Summer Camp programs! We have some other fun plans in the works that might just involve getting a counselor or two wet and/or a little messy!! Stay tuned for that!! Children may bring donations to their classrooms – each room will have a jar in which to collect funds!Above: The chicken coop that the Nzige School children’s parents and teachers built for the chicken project. The school requires that the parents invest whatever they can to a project before they present it as a need to Pearce/P4K.According to the International Child Care Ministries website (the organization we work through to partner with Nzige): “Gifts of animals are the gift of life to children, families and schools. They are sources of nutrition through milk and eggs. They are also frequently sources of income and economic sustainability when they are bred locally.” P4K staff are excited about this summer project as we get to be part of, and engage the children in being part of, changing lives of children in our partner school in Nzige!“And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.” Hebrews 13:16 ................
