Swimming Attire

When using the pool, all swimmers must change from street clothes to a swim suit and/or clean clothing used for swimming only. Clothing worn in the pool must permit individuals to participate safely in programs.

? Children 0-7 years old of either gender will be allowed in the spectator designated areas, where available and when appropriate supervision by a guardian of the appropriate gender is present.

Important Notice ? Serious Medical Conditions

Those with serious medical conditions should be accompanied by an individual knowledgeable of their condition and responsible for their direct supervision. Individuals are advised to consult a medical doctor before swimming.

Admittance/Supervision Requirements for Children

To ensure that children have a safe and enjoyable swimming experience, the City of Toronto uses a wristband procedure. This procedure allows staff to identify children at greater risk of accidents and ensure adequate supervision when in the pool area. All children under 10 years of age will be given an identifying wristband. To determine requirements and identifying wristband colour, refer to the following chart:

5 years and under Always accompanied* 2:1 ratio Pink wrist band

6 years

Always accompanied* 4:1 ratio Orange wrist band

? Child may obtain a GREEN wristband (in addition to orange) to access deep end. To obtain GREEN wristband child must complete the facility swim test.

? Child must still be accompanied* at all times.

? If child passes swim test, the ORANGE wristband is removed and replaced with a GREEN wristband, allowing child unsupervised access.

? Accompaniment requirement: caregiver to be within arm's reach until such a time that a 7-9 year old successfully completes the facility test.

10 years+

No supervision required

? Child will be required to do facility swim test and obtain a GREEN wristband to access deep end of pool.

*Accompanied: Must be accompanied by a caregiver who is at least 14 years of age and is responsible for their direct supervision. Other information

Pool Fouling and Closures On occasion, pools close due to pool fouling. Health regulations require that pools be closed anywhere from one to 24 hours depending on the nature of the fouling. The pool will reopen once the water chemistry is balanced and affected equipment is disinfected.

If a pool fouling occurs during instructional lessons, the City of Toronto will provide a dry land lesson or a make-up class. If these options are not possible, a credit will be issued as applicable.

Help keep our pools clean! Please try to eat a minimum of two hours before swimming or after swimming.

Tiny Tots (1-5 years)

Children in Tiny Tots progress through the Learn to Swim skills at their own pace. Lessons are private (one participant per instructor) and 15 minutes in length. There are no prerequisites. The parent or guardian is not required to go into the water with the child.

Guardian Swim (6 months to 5 years)

The Guardian Swim program is a three level progressive program which provides children with support from their parent or caregiver an introduction to the aquatic environment and to basic swimming skills. One parent or guardian must actively participate in the water at all times with the child. As this is a progressive program, children should be registered into the appropriate level based on skill, not age. The Guardian Swim program is best run with a one to one, guardian to child ratio. Parents and guardians may request accommodation for twins and children close in age, following registration, by contacting staff at their program location. Accommodation will be made in manageable situations, where safety is not a concern.
