Spelling Activities

Spelling Words should be studied/practiced throughout the week. The following are fun ways to practice your spelling words. Each week you will need to choose one way that you would like to show me on your homework. Your spelling practice can be done on the back of your homework or on a separate sheet of paper. Please make sure you turn in one way for homework credit. Write the number of the spelling activity at the top of your spelling homework. If you choose a challenge activity, please write the letter “C” before the number. Try to pick a new way each week. Remember to start studying early in the week. Spelling tests are every Friday.

1. amywoodall: This website has your weekly spelling words. Print and complete one of the free activities.

2. Boxed Words: box around the whole word following the height of the letter in the word.

3. Spiral Words: Draw a spiral and write each spelling word 3 times around the spiral.

4. Rainbow words: write each spelling word in 3 different colors

5. Shape It: draw a box and/or triangle and write each spelling word around the shape

6. Hide a Word: Draw a picture and hide the spelling words in the picture.

7. Pyramid: write each spelling word one letter at a time, adding each letter as you add another line to make a pyramid.

8. Practice Makes Perfect: Take a practice test at home w/ your parents. Write each missed word 5 times each and get a parent signature.

Challenge Spelling Activities

Sometimes the spelling words may seem easy for you and you are up for a challenge. The following are ways that will challenge you.

1. Sentences: Write a sentence for each spelling word.

2. ABC Order: Put your spelling words in alphabetical order

3. Story: Write a story using your spelling words. Underline them in the story.

4. Letter: Write a letter using as many spelling words as you can

5. Ransom Note: Cut all of the letters out of a magazine or newspaper to form your spelling words.

6. Pasta Words: Write your words using pasta noodles and glue them to a piece of paper.

7. Word Search: Make and complete a word search on graph paper or using .
