Lockdown Short Film CompetitionFor all you budding filmmakers this is the time to try out making your own short film – it could be an animation, a documentary or a short film.Every film maker must start somewhere and if you have always fancied having a go at making a film this is the time to do it. LU Arts short film competition is open to complete beginners and films can be made using any device you can get your hands on, whether that be a mobile phone or camera. We are less interested in high production values and more interested in innovative responses to the brief. We want DIY films that show your imagination and creativity. The BriefWe are asking you to submit a short film, up to a maximum of 5 minutes long, that is made within the constraints currently imposed by lockdown. That means using the resources or locations that are available within our own homes or within the vicinity of our homes. It means using props and items within your house and it means only working with people who are currently in lockdown with you, or whom you can work remotely with. We want the limitations that we find ourselves in to provide inspiration and focus for your film. The film does not need to be about lockdown, it can about any topic at all, and in any genre or style that you wish. It does not need to have people in it, it does not need to have a script or narrative. It can be as abstract or as realistic as you wish. It is not about funny videos of your cat though, we want you to think creatively and consider the possibilities that your camera and your surroundings can offer. To help inspire you and learn some of the skills you might need, why not take part in our free, online?film making workshop?with talented filmmaker Tomisin Adepeju on Saturday 16 May, 1-3pm. We also have one of the judges, Alex Widdowson, being?interviewed live online?on Sunday 17 May at 4pm. Find out more about his career and hear some top tips! Both events are part of our?Creative Media Weekend. The competition is open to staff and students based at Loughborough University. Selected films will be shown on our festival website and will compete for three prizes: first prize ?250, second prize ?100 and third prize ?50.The jury will consist of Loughborough Alumnus and award winning animateur Alex Widdowson and Director of LU Arts, Nick Slater.Terms and ConditionsYou should only submit your short film if it was made during this current period of lockdown and it should not have been published yet (including social media and video platforms). The short film must not be longer than 5 minutes. It must be self-made or made with your partners/family/people you are isolated with. You can also team up with someone else, but you must work together remotely. We encourage you to stay at home, get creative and work with what you have got at hand - a good story and your camera can be more than enough. How to enterPlease complete the submission form and upload this, along with your short film, via WeTransfer to luarts@lboro.ac.uk.
