TIME PASSES

Sometime later Amy is tired of toying with TEMPLE and takes her down, she raises her fist as if she is to finish TEMPLE off (the death blow) but she catches herself and smiles, she would never punch her friend in the face like that. TEMPLE gets up and bows graciously.

COUNCILMAN DOUGLAS

Well technically, I'm not granting you a license

CUT TO:

INT. LAPD WHILSHIRE ROBBERY HOMICIDE DIVISION

Det. Calvetta Clark and a few other Detectives are viewing a presentation about a new technology from a representative of a security firm. The Salesman's name is STEWART AUGUST he'sWhite in his 30's and is rather nerdy.

MR. AUGUST

You guys are gonna love this. Its facial recognition technology.

It works with your mug shot database or you simply scan

a photo into your desktop. You can link it to National and International

Law enforcement and even interface with the Department of Homeland

Security …thwart Terrorists and such. We first put it in place at the 06 Superbowl. The Seahawks were unstoppable, I mean Hassellback was ….

Detective Clark is not into sports and has a look of disinterest that August can read and he immediately gets back to the presentation.

MR. AUGUST (cont.)

Ok, here's how it works, you take a photo, any photo or video

It could be black or white or color and you capture it, like this.

He's working the computer.

(Cont.)

MR. AUGUST (cont.)

It takes a few seconds to run through the database depending

On the database, give it a few seconds…

And walla! the software kicks out a match.

DET. CLARK is somewhat impressed.

DETECTIVE CLARK

That's pretty cool.

MR. AUGUST

Yea, cool huh, and its only based on the shape and contours

of the face. The human face is as distinctive and as individual

as a finger print. Only better.

DET JUSTICE

That's all fine and good but most crooks aren't gonna stand there

similing and posing for the camera, how many are gonna

show their face anyway ?

AUGUST

No, its not the face as much as it’s the head. This technology

Works whether the perp has on a mask or whether you see him

from behind or the side even the top. As long as you have the

Shape of someone's head and its on camera and you can scan

the photo in this computer, if he's a known criminal and or terrorist

or a Dead Beat Daddy you got him.

ANOTHER DETECTIVE

How much is this gonna cost us ?

AUGUST

That's not the question the question is how much is

It gonna cost NOT to have this technology ?

(Cont.)

THE DETECTIVE

We can talk about how much its gonna cost us

NOT to have it, but first we need to know how

much its gonna cost TO have it ?

AUGUST

Well its not cheap, an initial install will run you

about two million, but it’s a bargain when you consider…

DETECTIVE CLARK

Two MILLION DOLLARS ! Good luck getting

that outta' the LAPD.

AUGUST

When you consider that over 95% of all violent

crimes are Black on Black violent crimes most done by repeat offenders it’s a pretty cost effective weapon to have. I mean think of the money you'd save in Court Costs and Bail

Bondsmen and other costs associated with finding

criminals ?

DETECTIVE CLARK is packing up her things.

DETECTIVE CLARK

I have cases to solve, give me a business card Mr. August

and I'll call you when Bill Gates becomes Police Chief.

MR. AUGEST hands Det. Clark a business card.

CUT TO:

COUNCILMAN DOUGLAS' APT.-NIGHT

Councilman Douglas and TEMPLE are in bed together after making love.

TEMPLE

I ran into an old friend today.

COUNCILMAN DOUGLAS

Is that right ?

TEMPLE

Yea, Amy Song. I hadn't seen her

in over 20 years. She was the only (cont.)

person who wanted anything to do

with a part-time Sista' at Tae Kwon Do

School. It brought back hella' memories.

DOUGLAS

Is that right.

TEMPLE

Is that all you can say ?

CUT TO:

SECURITY GUARD #2 (in Spanish)

I couldn't win nothing I think I need to wait

for the Mega' Lotto and leave the Scratchers

alone.

Just then the monitors go blank

SECURITY GUARD #1

Look at that, the screen went out.

First she hits the screen, nothing happens.

(Cont.)

SECURITY GUARD #2

I'm gonna go check it out.

CUT TO:

INT. JEWLRY STORE-NIGHT

Security Guard #2 goes to check out what's going on, she peeks at the a front door and checks it to make sure its secure. She goes by the safe and sees nothing. She looks all around and sees nothing.

CUT TO:

SECURITY DESK-DAY

We see Security Guard #2 heading back to the guards desk.

SECURITY #2 (in English)

I didn't see nothing it probably is just an electrical failure…

She has the look of horror when she sees Security Guard #1 dead in her chair her neck broken.

She screams, and at the same time reaches for her walkie talkie when out of nowhere the Asian female in the Black tight jumpsuit flies in kicks her into a counter.

The female begins to punch the Security Guard repeatedly, in rapid fire blows, in the face in the chest very professional and very thorough. She grabs the Guard by the back of her head and slams her face into the glass counter breaking the counter glass. She then snaps the guards neck, killing her.

The Asian woman then breaks the back window and climbs out through the roof the way she came in. We can see her holding a bag of jewels.

CUT TO:

JEWLERY STORE - DAY

The next morning we see FERRIS, TEMPLE and others are already on the scene when Detective Clark arrives.

DET. CLARK ( to officer Ferris)

Got another one huh? We really have to stop meeting

(Cont.)

TEMPLE (taking charge)

Looks like a break in gone bad Detective. We found

The first guard at her desk her neck snapped, she must

have been ambushed from the back, poor girl didn’t

stand a chance.

DET. CLARK

Skip the editorial officer just give me the facts.

TEMPLE

Ok, my bad, just the facts. The second one musta'

put up a fight, her blood is everywhere, she ended up

where she is now face down in that counter.

DET. CLARK (shouting to all)

Nobody touches anything ! I want a full

inventory of everything in this place before

and after last night.

TEMPLE is excited her adrenaline is pumping.

DET. CLARK

And are these camera's working?

If they are I want the tapes.

TEMPLE (to Det. Clark)

You got any suspects Detective?

DET. CLARK (Calm)

You thinking of becoming a Detective one day

Officer Hunt ?

TEMPLE

Yes indeed Ma'm, I think I'd make a good

Detective, I have…

DET. CLARK (cutting her off)

Well until you do make Detective, let me

investigate the crimes and you work the

traffic violations and keep the drunks

from sleeping on the sidewalk is that a deal ?

TEMPLE

Oh, its like that? I was just trying to help.

(cont.)

DET. CLARK

The best help you can give me is to stay

Outta' my investigation.

TEMPLE (dejected)

Yes Ma'm.

DET. CLARK

And don’t' call me Ma'm it's

detective OK ?

TEMPLE

Yes Ma'm, I mean Detective.

CUT TO:

KOREAN CLUB-DAY

MARCUS and AMY continue kissing.

MARCUS(cont.)

A couple more of these and we'll be ready to strike.

MARCUS looks out the window at an MTA Bus and the two smile.

TEMPLE (In Korean)

Ferris is shocked at hearing a Temple speak Korean.

the budget. You need an ally and I could be just that for you.

Imagine how it would look if your software helped solve

a major crime? It would go a long way to show the Department

how much they need your "thing a ma jiggy".

MR.AUGUST is skeptical,

MR. AUGUST

I don't know, this is simply beyond the scope…

DET CLARK (interrupting)

Hassleback was killin' em' and Darrell Jackson was robbed

a match out there, but just not from any

known law enforcement data base.

DET. CLARK

Well what can you do?

MR AUGUST

I can't do anything, I will leave her

scan on your computer and if you

or any law enforcement agency pick her

up you can re-run the scan and find

person but other then that, there's nothing

I can do.

(Pause) (cont.)

MR. AUGUEST (cont.)

Does this mean you're gonna recommend

WHILSHIRE ROBBERY HOMOCIDE DIV.-DAY

Detective Calvetta Clark is seated with a professional FBI type JERRY SWALLING.

SWALLING

Well I just thought you might want to know what this Councilman

Douglas is up to.

CLARK

Are you sure of this? (Cont.)

SWALLING

As sure as sure can be, this guy is taking "campaign contributions" wink wink in exchange for liquor licenses.

DET. CLARK

He's one of the only Brothers we have on the city council. And after

promising he wouldn't re-new any of those licenses. You sure

you have enough to indict?

SWALLING

We've indicted for far less.

We've been monitoring this Asian guy named Marcus Chong. We intercepted a call MARCUS made to Saudi Arabia, he was into a lot of things, rumor has it he's in heaven with the 72 virgins courtesy of the US Govt.We have the Councilman making deals on MARCUS's cell phone and we have him meeting with the guy on at least three separate

Occasions. We haven't proved anything yet, nor can we seem to

get a picture of them together, but still, like I said we've indicted

for far less.

DET. CLARK

So you like this Chong fellow and his gang for the Jewelry killings and

the Tan murder?

SWALLING

I'm not 100% sure, but I'd bet on it. And there's more.

DET CLARK

I'm listening.

SWALLING

There's an LAPD connection.

DET. CLARK

How so?

SWALLING

We traced a number of calls from DOUGLAS to

an LAPD officer named Temple Hunt a

Rookie you know her?

DET CLARK

Oh really? I know who she is but that's

about it. (cont.)

SWALLING

Well here's a picture of Song with his girlfriend

and a picture of Councilman Douglas with this

Hunt character.

Swalling shows the pictures to Det. Clark.

SWALLING (cont.)

I'd like to find out from Officer Hunt what she

Knows about Douglas and Chong , maybe he

revealed something during pillow talk.

DET. Clark is looking at Amy's photograph.

DET. CLARK

Who's this girl with Chong?

SWALLING

Wouldn't we like to know, she doesn’t show up

on any of our records all we do have is that her

name is Amy Song and she works at a Thai Food

joint over on Western.. For all we know she's

just Chong's girl De jour.

DETECTIVE CLARK

Maybe not. Mind if I borrow this for awhile?.

Holding up the picture of Amy and Marcus.

SWALLING

OK, but we are Federal Investigator's Detective, there's

nothing you'll find that we haven't already.

DET. CLARK

You're probably right, but I'd like to hold

on to it just in case.

We see DET. CLARK start to scan Amy's picture into the facial recognition software.

CUT TO:

INT. AMY SONG'S APT-NIGHT

Amy Song's apartment is laid, it's as if she has millions instead of working at the Thai joint. The place is decked out for a romantic dinner. The doorbell rings. The Brother

(Cont.)

AMY (to Jones)

Wesley? I didn't make this wonderful

Dinner for nothing, I'll warm it up.

JONES (over shower)

My name is NOT Wesley. How would

you like it if I called you Yoko Ono?

(pause)

I usually don't even go out like this

But you were lookin' kinda' right and

you were so persistent, and I was in-between

relationships and all.

AMY (quietly)

Yea, I know you usually keep it real with the

Sista's, but they're trippin' right now so you

decided to get on the oriental express for a

minute ?

Jones comes out of the shower and hears Amy say this even though she didn't intend for him too.

JONES

Well, something like that.

AMY (surprised a bit)

Don't worry, I won't tell anyone about you Selling Out.

Your ghetto pass will still be in effect.

JONES

All right you don't have to make such a big deal

about it.

CUT TO:

AMY

You ain't gonna like it but, its true.

MARCUS

Close on tracking device as it moves

Time elapse.

Some time later.

MARCUS and Amy still follow the tracking device on the monitor.

MARCUS

He should finish his route at

around six then hell be dropping off the

money.

AMY

I don't get it, I mean its bus fare how

much money could there be?

MARCUS

Think about it Baby, 6 million people per day

ride the buses and railway in this city every day,

each one pays 3 dollars for a round trip. That's

42 million riders at 126 million dollars per week

and its all cash.

AMY

That's a lotta' bus fare.

MARCUS

They won't know what hit em'. I don't know what happened

to the Arabs but Tan's information was so lame and weak that money would of straightened us out.

AMY

Well that was the last match making she'll ever do.

how we gonna get it outta' there ?

(Cont.)

MARCUS

First we gotta' find out where they keep it,

then we'll figure out how to get it outta' there.

Close again on the tracking device on the computer screen.

(Pause)

And you officer Ferris ?

FERRIS

Yea I'll have Orange Chicken

AMY

Got it comin' right up.

Its so good to see you.

TEMPLE and Ferris are confused they share a look.

Later during the meal.

TEMPLE(to Ferris)

I can't stand it Ferris, I have to say something

to her hold up.

TEMPLE dabs her mouth with the napkin and gets up to approach Amy.

TEMPLE

Excuse me Amy, I'm sorry to bother you

but there's something I just have to ask you.

AMY

Is something wrong, was there a problem

with your meal ? I can take it back…

(Cont.)

TEMPLE

No, the food is cool, there's no problem

with that.

AMY

OK.

TEMPLE

Ferris and I were on patrol about a week ago,

And I saw you come out of the bus station at

Western and Whilshire…

Amy is looking at her confused.

TEMPLE(cont.)

I called out to you and you just

stared at me like you didn't know

who I was.

AMY

I never catch that train, I just live across from the

restaurant . I may go to the grocery store on the corner but

there's no need for me to catch the Redline, what time

was it?

TEMPLE

It was about 3 O'clock on Wednesday.

AMY

I would have been here, its after lunch and

right before our dinner rush.

Maybe it was someone who looks like me?

TEMPLE

Maybe so, well don't worry about it.

CUT TO:

INT. PATROL CAR-DAY

FERRIS

She's lying, we saw her, why would she lie

to us about that ?

(Cont.)

TEMPLE

I don't know, we're trained to observe

people, she's not, maybe she didn't

know it was us?

FERRIS

That's ridiculous.

They drive by the MTA station near Western and Whilshire.

CUT TO:

Passage of time.

Later that day, TEMPLES Cell Phone rings.

INT. PATROL CAR-DAY

TEMPLE

Restricted number, wonder who that could be?

FERRIS

I don’t even answer restricted numbers if they

don't want you to know where they're calling from

then I don't want to talk to em'.

TEMPLE looks at her cell as it rings then decides to answer it.

TEMPLE (to phone).

Hello.

CUT TO:

DETECTIVE CLARK on her cell phone.

We inter-cut back and fourth between the two

DET. CLARK

Hello officer Hunt its Detective Clark,

I have some bad news and its best that

I tell you in person. So how soon can

you get over here.

(Cont.)

TEMPLE

Well I'm in the middle of my shift…

DET. CLARK

I've spoken to your Captain and you can

take a little personal time, it won't affect

your pay, you'll still get your eight hours.

TEMPLE

OK.

They hang up the phone.

TEMPLE(to Ferris)

That was Detective Clark.

FERRIS

Maybe there's a break in the Jewelry or Tan case?

TEMPLE

No, I don't think so, she said it was bad news,

she wanted to tell me in person.

(Pause)

You don't mind…

FERRIS

No problem, I'll shoot you over there.

CUT TO:

INT. ROBBERY HOMOCIDE DIV-DAY

TEMPLE is in Det. Clarks office for the first time, she's impressed as she looks around, but she's also nervous because she doesn't know what the bad news is.

(Cont.)

DET. CLARK

Can I get you a cold drink, water, coffee?

detective Clark pulls a bottle of water out of her office cooler.

TEMPLE

I'll take water, thank you.

DET. CLARK

Well there's no other way to put it Officer Hunt.

your boyfriends in trouble. Seems he's

been taking bribes from the Korean Mafia,

in exchange for liquor licenses.

TEMPLE

What ?

DET. CLARK

Of course he has the monies listed as

Campaign Contributions but the Feds

have him on tape accepting money

in exchange for renewing licenses.

TEMPLE

No, that can't be true, Bobby has been

against granting or renewing liqour

licenses.

DET. CLARK

True he's not allowing liqour stores to renew

but he's cutting deals with these Night Clubs.

(pause)

Temple they've been on him for months.

They have photos, they have tapes, they

plan to arrest him this evening.

TEMPLE reaches for her phone.

DET CLARK crabs her arm.

(Cont.)

DET. CLARK

Do that and we both lose our jobs.

TEMPLE doesn't pull out her phone she slumps back in her chair.

TEMPLE

I don't understand ?

DET. CLARK

There's not much to understand, he's

on the take.

(pause)

I know, there aren't enough of us

in any of these plantation ass positions.

to lose a Brother especially a fine Brother

like Councilman Douglas ?

TEMPLE is comforted by DET. Clarks candor and letting her hair down she can feel a sense of oneness with her.

TEMPLE

Well what's gonna happen?

DET. CLARK

Well they'll arrest him, hold him for a minute,

he'll bail out there'll be a trial.

TEMPLE

It has to be a mistake, there must be

something you can do?

DET. CLARK

Nothing I or you can do, its this damn Govenator,

he thinks he's some kinda' Muck Raker or something.

he's made it his mission to get the corrupt politicians

and such, he's lost touch with reality.

(pause)

(Cont.)

DET. CLARK (cont.)

A lot of good people are gonna lose their careers

because of that fool, this State was built on corruption.

TEMPLE looks defeated.

Detective Clark, hands photos to TEMPLE of Mr. Chong and Amy.

DET. CLARK

What do you know about this man?

TEMPLE

I don't know him, but what is Amy doing with him?

DET. CLARK

Well at least you didn't lie, the Feds have pictures

Of you with Song. So you know her but what about

her boyfriend ?

TEMPLE

I don't know about that dude. Amy never

mentioned a boyfriend. I guess I never asked.

DET. CLARK

She's your friend?

TEMPLE

Yes, we go way back

childhood friends.

DET. CLARK(back in Det. mode)

Officer, have you ever heard of Facial

Recognition Software ?

TEMPLE

What?

DET. CLARK

Let me show you something.

(Cont.)

Detective Clark pushes play on the Jewelry Store Robbery.

TEMPLE

That's the Jewelry Store Robbery.

DET. CLARK (setting up)

Right you are.

(pause)

This software matches the face and bone structure of

A person from a surveillance tape, photograph, film clip

whatever. I matched this tape up with all the known

criminals both local, national and international, we got

nothing. It puzzled me for the longest. When we began

to investigate your boyfriend and his connection to Chong

I decided to run his picture through the software, again, nothing. Then for the hell of it I decided to run his girlfriend, your girlfriend through the software and guess what ?

TEMPLE

Why you showin' me this?

DET. CLARK

Hold Up, follow along.

DET. Clark is working the machines and software while TEMPLE looks on quizzically.

DET. CLARK

Now we saw the robbery footage and then we

took your friends picture and we scan it into our

Police criminal on the loose database. Now we hit

F-8 and Enter. Then we wait for it to go through

the database, and…here it is.

A perfect match..

(Cont.)

TEMPLE

No WAY!

DET. CLARK

Way. TEMPLE you have

to stay away from this

woman. You have to watch

what you say on your cell phone.

You and Ferris must toe the line.

(Pause)

You better forget this meeting ever

happened. And you better find another

place to have lunch.

TEMPLE (dejected)

No Way Detective, I know Amy Song

we grew up together we are like sisters.

She's not capable of murder. She didn't do

it she couldn't of done it.

DET. CLARK

The technology is so knew the Courts aren't

allowing it to be used as evidence or even

probable cause. We can't arrest a subject

Based of Facial Recognition alone, we need

more, but I'm convinced that your friend

Amy Song is our murderer.

You wanted to play Detective, now you're gonna get your chance.

TEMPLE

It can't be.

DET. CLARK

Just as sure as that's your boyfriend Councilman

Douglas on those wire tapes taking that money,

Amy Song is our murderer and she will pay for

her crimes, I'm gonna see to it.

TEMPLE

You're wrong.

(Cont.)

DET. CLARK

For your sake and hers you better hope I'm wrong.

(pause)

Officer Hunt if you're involved in this now is the…

TEMPLE

Stop it, I'm not involved in nothing' and neither is Amy, am

I under arrest ?

DET. CLARK

Of course not.

TEMPLE

Then I'd like to be excused.

DET. CLARK

Well if you don't want to cooperate Officer Hunt

then I don't want you snooping around my case.

(pause)

You got that Officer ? Officer ? Officer Hunt !

TEMPLE is lost in thought.

TEMPLE

What? Oh yea, no, I won't snoop

around your case.

DET. CLARK

Good, we have an understanding.

FERRIS

TEMPLE you're too militant.

CUT TO:

Councilman Bobby Douglas' home-Night

TEMPLE(to Douglas)

They called me in, it makes us both

look bad.

DOUGLAS

I didn’t do anything wrong. Everyone

takes political contributions and everyone

who contributes expects something in return

TEMPLE

Baby you tryin' to tell me that you didn't

know that these people were in the Korean Mafia ?

DOUGLAS

Korean Mafia, Itlian Mafia, AFLCIO

to quit playin' and make this heist a reality.

(Pause)

Efficiently as possible?

Close as we push in on Amy's face our push in takes us to another flashback.

safe.

AMY

MARCUS

SOON.

(pause)

I hope you haven't forgot

how to speak Korean we'll

be back home soon.

CUT TO:

WHISHIRE DIV. ROBBERY HOMICIDE-DAY

Detective Clark has morgue photos of the recent murders and is trying to make a connection. She studies the faces, and studies them. She's really perplexed about the MICHEAL JONES photos, she wonders what' s this murder got to do with the others. After much concentration she has a thought.

CUT TO:

MTA-HEADQUARTERS -DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES-DAY

We see the sign "Security" on the door just below that SARGENT RICK CARLOS

Detective Clark enters SGT. Carlos is behind his desk.

SGT. CARLOS

Yes come in Detective, Mrs. Clark ?

SGT. Carlos reaches for a toy bus he picks it up.

SGT. CARLOS (cont.)

Look at this, this is our new train, should be up

and on line by fall of next year. We have these

Babies made in Ireland, the fastest most energy

efficient buses in the world. They are virtually

One of a kind, the Rolls Royce of buses…

(Cont.)

Det. Clark is seated with SGT. Carlos the head of MTA Security.

Clark is not interested in his conversation.

DET. CLARK

That's nice SGT. How long have

You been with the MTA ?

SGT. CARLOS

I've been with this fine outfit for

five years. Started out as an Sherrif

Patrolling the Long Beach Blue line,

busting vagrants, turnstyle jumpers, writing

tickets for terminal violations that sorta' thing.

(pause)

Then moved on to Supervisor did that for a few

years and then they made me the head of all

MTA Security, I'm not a peticularly well educated

guy either it was all due to hard work.

DET. CLARK.

I see. You were aware of Employee Michael

Jones?

SGT. CARLOS

Yes, tragic his loss, he was a great guy a

hard worker came from the humble background

like me.

DET. CLARK

You knew him?

SGT. CARLOS

Not really. But if he

worked for MTA then

he had to be an upstanding

citizen, we try to do everything

we can Detective to protect and screen

our employees to insure that there

are no incidents.

(Cont.)

DET. CLARK

I'm sure you take every precaution Sargent

but there has to be a reason that this man was

singled out ?

SGT. CARLOS

I just can't see why. I mean, they didn’t even take

any money, it had to be a random act of violence. You

know, maybe he was in a gang, and a rival member

smoked him. You know 98% of violent crime against

Blacks is committed by other Blacks Detective?

DET. CLARK

With all do respects Sargent this was the work

of an Asian gang and they do not commit random

acts of violence. Let me ask you something ?

(pause)

Sargent Carlos nods OK.

DET. CLARK (cont.)

On any given day, how much money would you collect

from all the trains and buses in Los Angeles ?

SGT. CARLOS

I can't tell you that.

DET. CLARK STARES AT HIM HARD.

SGT. CARLOS

I don't even know…I don't know.

DET. CLARK

This is a murder investigation Sargent

just give me a ballpark figure ?

SGT. CARLOS

Ball park, 18 million 450 thousand a day, plus

some change, but you didn't hear that from me.

CUT TO:

EXT. SARGENT CLARKS MTA OFFICE-DAY

DETECTIVE CLARK and Sargent Carlos are standing in the open air as the trains come and go at a Union Station. (Cont.)

DET. CLARK

Ok, now would an employee such as Michael Jones

have access to those millions ?

SGT. CARLOS

NO.

DET. CLARK

Would he know where those millions are kept ?

` SERGENT CARLOS

No. What are you saying Detective you think

that maybe the gang was trying to get Michael Jones

to lead them to the MTA vault ?

DET. CLARK

It would make sense. If Chong's Gang wanted

to find out where the MTA vault was what better

way to find it then to follow and track one of your

collectors ?

(Pause)

You're not gonna like this at all but I need to know

where you keep that vault ?

SGT. CARLOS

I can't tell you that, you'll have to get a Court Order.

CLARK

Consider it done.

CUT TO:

EXT. THAI FOOD RESTURANT-DAY

FERRIS AND TEMPLE are parked outside in the lot waiting for Amy to show up for work.

(Cont.)

FERRIS

She'd have to be a fool to show up

for work today Temp.

TEMPLE

Well if she's goin' around here snapping

peoples necks then there's a good chance

she's a fool, besides stranger things have

happened.

Just as they say this Amy comes strolling into work as if nothing has happened.

FERRIS

You gotta' be kidding me.

TEMPLE

I can't believe it either.

We've evacuated the other floors. The Swat teams

Will do an office to office search.

They bust down the door to Chong's hangout and two body guard's immediately empty

Out their clips on the police. The police fire back and kill two of Chong's guards.

The shoot out with the guards last long enough for Chang to get to the roof where there

They continue to take on gunfire their patrol car is getting hit pretty hard. Bullets shatter the windshield of the cruiser. TEMPLE waits, takes a deep breath and then emerges with her riffle.

She takes aim and fires two rounds hitting one of Chong's men who falls from the 8th

floor fire escape into a large dumpster.

FERRIS (Asian accent)

Nice SAAAAAT !

TEMPLE

Thank you.

(Cont.)

FERRIS (to TEMPLE)

Oh, I wish I had that one on tape…

Before Ferris can finish his thought a bullet rips through the right side of his head, blood

is splashed on TEMPLE'S face and partly on her uniform.

CUT TO:

The Balcony, where the other gunman is surprised and elated that he killed Ferris, he's smiling and starting to raise his arms in victory.

CUT TO:

TEMPLE drops the riffle and is slumping down over Ferris' body when she looks up at the balcony to see the man celebrating.

In one smooth motion, TEMPLE reaches in her holster and un-straps her nine-millimeter pistol, in slow motion she whips out the weapon and fires two shots.

CUT TO:

TEMPLE (weeping)

Detective Clark arrives she re-acts to the dead officer.

DET CLARK

Officer Hunt, I'm sorry, Officer

Ferris was an excellent public servant.

I promise you Chong will pay for this.

to defend herself. The pair fight for what seems like an eternity. They bust up tables and chairs. Both are getting in good blows. TEMPLE has the upper hand and then Amy

A coincidence that it looks

Like the work of a Master

Blackbelt a graduate of the Kim

School of Tae Kwon Do.

The same school that YOU just

happened to graduate from.

(Cont.)

AMY

I'm not the only graduate of that school.

TEMPLE

INT. LA-FEDERAL DISTRICT COURT ROOM-DAY

Inside the Court we see the Federal Prosecutor, AARON MAY and a couple of Assistant Prosecutors seated behind a large table. Opposite them is Attorney JAY LEE KIM and Marcus Chong. There are spectators and reporters in the Court Room as well.

The JUDGE, SHELIA ROBERTSON an African American woman, is on the bench.

JUDGE ROBERTSON (to all)

Today we are gathered for a pre-trail hearing in Case Number

1123463 the United States Government vs. Marcus Song. The

charges are five counts of murder and 15 counts of attempted

murder along with conspiracy and the murder and attempted murder of a police officer as well as the murder of a Govt. employee. Be advised Mr. Chong that if convicted on one or

more of these charges and you can face the death penalty.

Close on Marcus Chong who has a stern look on his face.

JUDGE ROBERTSON

Do you understand the charges against you Mr. Chong?

MARCUS CHONG

YES.

JUDGE ROBERTSON

I will not ask you for a plea as this is a pre-trail

hearing an exploratory procedure to see whether

or not the Govt. has enough evidence for us to

proceed with a case. (cont.)

JUDGE ROBERTSON(cont.)

Be advised that if indeed there

is enough evidence for a trail

you will be asked to plead and your

plea will be so entered at that time

We now turn to the Prosecution table where the Prosecutor AARON MAY stands.

JUDGE ROBERTSON

Mr. May would you like to call your first

witness ?

PROSECUTOR MAY

Yes I would your honor, the Prosecution

would like to call Detective Calvetta Clark?

Detective Clark gets up from her seat in the front row and approaches the bench. We see her raising her right hand as we pull out we hear no dialog but we can tell she's being sworn in.

Some time passes Detective Clark is still on the stand.

PROSECUTOR MAY (to Det. Clark)

What Detective caused you to determine that

Marcus Song was a suspect in these murders?

DETECTIVE CLARK

The bodies kept coming back the him. The first

Victim was a frequent patron to Chong's Nightclub.

We connected him to the murders at the Jewelry

store and his girlfriend was seen on survillence camera

footage at the time that Micheal Jones' body was found.

PROSECUTOR MAY

I have no further questions for this witness your honor.

JUDGE ROBERTSON (to Attorney Kim)

Re-Direct Counselor?

ATTORNEY KIM

Yes, if I may your honor?

(cont.)

ATTORNEY KIM

Mrs. Clark you said that the "bodies" to use

your words, kept coming back to my client, can you

explain that more thoroughly?

DETECTIVE CLARK

Well I don't know if there's any way to be more thorough

then I've been so far, in each of the murders in question the evidence pointed to Chong and his gang.

ATTORNEY KIM

But Detective with all due respect was there any physical

evidence linking my client to the Tan murder? Any hair or

DNA evidence any eye witnesses any finger prints, a bloody glove?

Just then a Prosecutor stands up to object.

JUDGE ROBERTSON

Sustained, I will NOT record that last comment and the reporter will strike it from the transcript. Mr. Kim I ask you to respect the integrity of this Courtroom.

ATTORNEY KIM

I'm sorry, I take it back.

(pause)

What about the Jewelry store murders any DNA

in that attack from my client?

DETECTIVE CLARK

No but it wasn't…

ATTORNEY KIM (cutting her off)

Did you ever determine a motive that would connect my client to any of the murders he's charged with?

DETECTIVE CLARK

The motive wasn't directly tied to your client….

As we fade to black Detective Clark is fumbling and stumbling over her words.
