The beautiful grounds of Veterans Memorial State Park will be the site of the convention. South West District is our host district and our convention chair, Shirene Daniell, junior conference chair Becky Smith, and the South West district members have planned for us to have a “Down Home Good Time” in the southern part of our state. Our most special GFWC guest for the weekend will be Deb Strahanoski, GFWC First Vice President. The Executive Committee will experience a lively event on Thursday, April 4th, as we cruise around Lake Blackshear for our dinner meeting. A special tour on Friday has been planned for all of the membership to enjoy as we chug along on the SAM shortline train to Americus to visit the Habitat for Humanity International Village. The official start to our convention will begin on Friday night. This evening is sure to wow you with the live entertainment and special guest speaker Berit Kimrey, Heifer International’s Director of Community Marketing. And, of course, awards! We top off the evening with a wonderful campfire to make s’mores and sing songs. There will be several opportunities to earn badges during this time together – see your registration form to note those opportunities. Saturday starts with our general session, more wonderful awards, and more inspiration from Becky Bolden’s lunch guest speaker. Saturday afternoon is a planned family fun time and a wonderful scavenger hunt, planned by a local Girl Scout troop. Saturday evening will be a beautiful event and we will be inspired to new heights by the wonderfully entertaining and funny leader, Deb Strahanoski. Join us for an outdoor reception to honor her on the beautiful lawn after dinner. Sunday will feature the tradition of honoring our passed membership, celebrating their lives, and celebrating the conclusion of awards with the Federated Cup! What to bring and wear checklist? Our service project is to donate gift cards to military women through the USO so bring a gift card or two. Thursday Executive Committee is business casual. Friday is GFWC resort wear. Friday night is cocktail. Saturday is nice denim to wear with your Scavenger Hunt t-shirt (yes, I said denim!). Saturday night is semi-formal/formal. Sunday is business dress or “Sunday clothes”. I hope you bring your family for them to enjoy the park and our events. There are several opportunities for families to enjoy the weekend and the park. Please make your reservations and registration soon. I am so excited for us to join together for this event! In federated friendship,Tina DanielGFWC Georgia State President ................
