5. Play mind games. Playing mind games or tricks on yourself while you are performing tasks you don't particularly enjoy or look forward to is the key to executing them. For example, many people get anxious or nervous about knocking doors because they are afraid of rejection or hearing "no." Keep in mind that while knocking doors may not be pleasurable, it is anything but painful. Nobody slaps you in the face when they say no. Knocking on doors isn't hard physically by any means. You are literally just walking around and talking to people. When you approach it with the perspective of, "I am simply just walking around talking to people," you realize that is what you do the rest of the day, too (at work, home, outside of work, etc). It's just talking! It isn't hard or scary. Some people may say no to you, but nothing bad happens. You just go to the next house and talk to that person. Focus on the numbers, not the emotions.

If you must knock on 30 doors that day, just put in the action, get the numbers and don't let the emotional reactions creep in, because they are unproductive and illogical. Another way you can approach these types of goals by focusing on the numbers is this: "I will knock 30 doors or get 3 appointments, complished your mission and are free to go home (or use the "just one more" rule below!) If you wind up having a particularly unsuccessful day and knock 30 doors and only get one appointment lined up, then you can still feel good that you committed to knocking out your numbers.

Another mental check to keep in mind is that while knocking for an hour and only getting one appointment lined up may feel like a disappointment, that one appointment will potentially earn you $1,5002,000. And remember, you were only knocking for an hour. Don't trick yourself into feeling like sixty minutes was an enormous investment of your time. $1,500 an hour isn't a bad rate.

6. Do it when you don't feel like it. What separates successful people from everybody else is they are willing to put in the work even when they don't feel like it. You know when you just REALLY don't feel like going to the gym, but you know you need to and ultimately end up dragging yourself there?

those end up being some of the best workouts. There's a phrase that goes, "The only workouts you'll ever regret are the ones you don't do," and the same applies to your work ethic. The last thing you may feel like doing is writing six estimates, but putting them off will only prevent you from tackling other tasks that pop up in the meantime. While most salesmen spend time mulling over wondering which houses have the "right customers" inside, worrying about not being "ready" to deliver the perfect approach at the door, or just spending time only thinking about or not looking forward to knocking doors, successful people just go to the door.

7. Just DO. Procrastinating creates a big dark cloud of pending tasks that looms over your head and takes up space in your mind, putting stress on your shoulders and making you feel like you're working when really you're just thinking about working. This snowballs into a never-ending, ongoing mental cycle where ultimately nothing gets done, you feel completely overwhelmed, and have paralyzed yourself, unable to move forward. Nip this in the bud by executing tasks on your to-do list so they are done and you can move on. You can either spend 15 hours thinking about writing those estimates all day that you know you have to write anyway, or you can just knock them out in two hours. Just do it! And then...

8. ....Just do one more. One of the keys I attribute to my personal success is my commitment to "just

doing one more" on any task that I am working on. It's like running on the treadmill. If you plan to

run for 30 minutes and you reach the 30 minute mark, how hard is it to just do one more minute?

After that minute, you might choose to do just one more minute after that. Next thing you know you

knock out 40-45 minutes and have suddenly achieved 50% more than you originally were planning

to achieve. If I am knocking doors and had set a goal to knock on 25 doors, I do my 25 and then do just one more. It's funny how it works out, but that usually ends up being a set appointment. If my goal was to set up 3 appointments and I get my 3, I tell myself to go get just one more. These "one mores" add up to a substantial amount over the course of the week, month, or year.

9. Take a break. Be sure to set aside at least one day out of the week where you can put work away and

working every single day will burn you out and cause you to crash. Plan a day each week where you can simply enjoy yourself and relax so you can recharge and be ready to go back to work for the rest your job, then show back up the next day.

crastinating or being lazy start to wash away. Taking action makes you feel good, and when you feel good, you'll want to continue doing the things that are making you feel that way. Take control of your results by taking control of your actions. Stop thinking and start doing!
