PROPS: table, chairs, stuffed animal toys, amusement park stuff

JESUS ZONE: SIN

(Opening Scene: A Christian is on stage, approaching a sinner)

CHRISTIAN: Sir, let me tell you about Jesus. He died for your sins . . .

SINNER: Not interested!

(A bunch of people ENTER, pushing and shoving each other out of the way as they go by, nearly trampling Alice. They EXIT.)

NARRATOR: Imagine, if you will, a world where nobody cares about anybody else. If sin were to rule this world that's exactly what we would have. But what kind of a world would that be? Would you want to live there? Imagine a world where everybody thinks only of themselves. "Impossible," you say. But it could happen. And it does happen, a little at a time, every time someone decides to enter a certain dimension. I'm talking about the dimension known as the "SelfishZone."

(ALICE ENTERS with MOM and DAD)

MOM: (handing ALICE a list) Here is a list of your chores for today. Any questions?

ALICE: No, Mom.

MOM: Good.

(MOM and Dad pantomime talking to each other for a little while)

ALICE: Sometimes I just wish I could play all I want with NO chores.

(SIN ENTERS)

SIN: Good morning, young lady; you know this could be your lucky day!

ALICE: How did you get in our house?

SIN: Oh, never mind about that. I'm looking for someone who wants to have fun today. I just won a million dollars in the lottery. If you don't want to go with me to I'll just find someone who does.

(SIN EXITS)

ALICE: I’m going to ask my parents. Mom, Dad?

DAD: Yes, Alice?

ALICE: Can I go outside for a little bit of fresh air?

DAD: Sure.

MOM: But I just gave that girl a list of chores to do.

DAD: But she has the whole weekend to finish those chores. A little fresh air will do her some good.

MOM: Okay.

ALICE: Thanks, you guys!

(Scene Two: Stage is now an amusement park - a party atmosphere, with fast paced music to set the mood. There is a table with stuffed animals on it.)

NARRATOR: The Bible says that God is able to give us every good desire of our heart if we put Him first. But what if we put Him last? It looks like Alice is about to get her wish. But will it be a dream come true, or truly a nightmare?

ALICE: This place is awesome!

ANNOUNCER: Step right up, folks. Take a ride on the crazy space ship! We will shortly start the count-down:10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1,0! (spacey sound and light effects here)

ALICE: What a wild ride!

SIN: There's lots of things to do here. And just let me know if you want me to buy you anything.

ALICE: Okay, I'll take one of these and one of these and one of these, etc.

(ALICE grabs as many stuffed toys as she can hold)

ALICE: I sure am having a good time!

SIN: A lot better time than you ever have doing chores around the house, or being in boring old church.

ALICE: Yeah, I guess you're right. What a great day! I wish every day could be like this. No problems, no worries, nothing else to ever think about except having fun. I'll bet Heaven is a lot like this.

SIN: Yeah, I'll bet you're right. Wouldn't it be great if you never had to think about anybody else except yourself?

ALICE: Yeah, but that sounds kind of selfish.

SIN: What's wrong with being selfish? You're not hurting anybody.

ALICE: Well, I never thought of it that way.

SIN: The way I see it, life should be enjoyed.

ALICE: Yeah, I suppose you're right. After all, God wants us to be happy.

SIN: Sure He does.

ALICE: (looking at her watch) Oh my gosh! Look what time it is. I’m missing Serina’s birthday party and I haven’t even bought her a present yet!

SIN: Really? Well, it’s probably too late now. You might as well just stay here at this amusement park and enjoy yourself.

ALICE: (pulling out the chore list) I haven’t even done any of the chores on the list either!

SIN: No big deal . . . your parents will forgive you.

(Scene Three: At church. ALICE is sitting with her family and best friend.)

ALICE: (to friend) I’m sorry I missed your birthday party yesterday. I think it was around 5:00 in the afternoon when I finally got home. Boy were my parents upset about that. It

SERINA: You missed my birthday party as well. How could you forget? You know, you look really tired this morning.

ALICE: (yawning) I don’t know why I’m so tired. I can hardly keep my eyes open.

SIN: (putting chains on Alice's arms) You're too sleepy to worship God. Just take it easy this morning. Put your arms down.

(ALICE puts her arms down)

ALICE: (loudwhisper) Since when did you start coming to Children's Church?

SIN: Oh, I've been coming here for a long time. Most of the time I don't let you see me though, Alice.

SERINA: Alice, who are you talking to?

ALICE: My friend. He's the one who took me to the amusement park.

SERINA: (looking around) Where is he?

ALICE: Right next to me. You can't see him?

SERINA: Very funny, Alice.

ALICE: (astonished) Who are you really?

SIN: (slowly turns around once to reveal "SIN" on his back) I’m your sin! I'm not so bad though, am I? Nobody gets hurt when you act selfishly. And it's sooooo fun! Hey, how about you come with me to Walmart? We can easily sneak out the back, buy your favorite toy and return before Children's Church is even over. You don't want to hear the preaching part anyway, do you? Let's go!

ALICE: No way. I'm tired of sin running my life. JESUS HELP ME (the chains fall off now)! It was fun for a while, but praise God, I'm finally rid of him. He sure was tricky.

SIN: Well, if you won't have some fun with me, I'll just find somebody else who will (turning to audience). How about it? I know how to have a real good time!

NARRATOR: It seems that Alice has finally returned to the Jesus Zone. The lesson she has learned will enable Alice to not only get along with others, but also to find God's will for her life. Before you is a choice. Will it be the Jesus Zone, or the problems that this guy wants to bring you . . . in the Selfish Zone (Twilight Zone music).
