|Course Description: |

|ESOL 0348, Intermediate Grammar seeks to prepare students for college level academic or workforce study by accomplishing the following objectives: |

|Teach students to recognize and produce grammatical and mechanical structures of English (syntax/morphology); |

|To introduce students to the meanings behind the various grammatical forms of English they are learning (semantics); |

|Build on syntactic knowledge that students have gained in previous study of English grammar while introducing more advanced structures ; |

|Strengthen students’ ability to produce new grammatical structures in a variety of communicative contexts. |

|Student Learning Outcomes |

|After successful completion of ESOL 0348, Intermediate Grammar, the student should be able to do the following: |

|Expand use of simple past to include auxiliary verbs (did); |

|Construct Wh- questions concerning time and location; compare Yes/No-questions with Wh-questions; |

|Build descriptive vocabulary appropriate places and activities; |

|Use verb tenses to express appropriate time relationships (time clauses); |

|Build on the use of present progressive and past progressive; |

|Speak about the future – will versus be going to |

|Differentiate the modals may/might versus will; |

|Use future time clauses with before, after and when; |

|Be familiar with if-clauses used to express daily habits (present); |

|Expressing ability – can, be able to; both ability and location (Where can …?) |

|Use modals to give advice, make suggestions, make requests as applied to daily situations; |

|Recognize and applying possessive pronouns; |

|Compare places and things; use comparatives and/or superlatives when describing people or things. |
