PATIENT CARE ASSISTANT PROGRAM

If you would like to become a Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide, or are interested in applying to the Practical Nursing Program in the future, our one semester Patient Care Assistant program may fulfill your needs.

Our Patient Care Assistant program is designed to teach basic nursing skills and related technologies necessary to prepare the nursing assistant for employment in hospitals, nursing and convalescent homes, extended care facilities, home health, and other healthcare settings.

The following modules require full day attendance for one semester. Certificates are issued for successful completion of each module. State of Florida examination is required for certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant.

? Basic Health Care Worker --90 hours (Health Science Core)

? Articulated Nursing Assistant - 75 hours ? Advanced Home Health Aide - 50 hours ? Patient Care Assistant --75 hours

Clinical experience in area healthcare facilities comprises approximately one-half of the program hours.

EARLY APPLICATION IS NECESSARY. Application should be made at least four weeks prior to the start of the fall or spring term.

THE SCHOOL OF PRACTICAL NURSING

The Practical nursing graduate of Gadsden Technical Institute is prepared to work as a practical nurse under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed physician within the framework of a health care facility and health care services. After successfully completing the PN program the student will have knowledge, skills and the abilities to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Nursing offers employment opportunities in nursing homes, physician offices, clinics, hospital industry, and government agencies. Nurses also receive opportunities for advancement in the field as well as an excellent benefit package.

The content includes, but not limited to, theoretical instructions and clinical experiences. Clinical experience is 50% of the total program. This experience begins approximately ten (10) weeks after classes begin.

Classroom Experiences

Theory: 6-8 hours days that start at 8am Monday-Friday.

Clinical: 8-hour days on 7-3 or 3-11 shifts at approved long-term or acute care facilities in Quincy and Tallahassee.
