Alamosa Elementary Principal: Ulrike Kerstges

The Alamosa bilingual team is dedicated to empowering students through meaningful, in-depth learning in both English and Spanish. The program promotes positive self-identity, respect for cultural diversity, and provides a strong foundation in language and academics. They strive to provide a high-quality education leading to authentic, long-lasting success. When visitors walk through Alamosa's school doors, the warm, supportive and positive learning environment is palpable. Students are happy and engaged and teachers have great rapport with their students. There is a sense of well-being, belonging, and family spirit!

For the past three years, Alamosa has been focusing on coherent program design, data-driven instruction, and family involvement. These qualitative programmatic markers are backed by quantitative growth and success as well. According to the Spanish LAS Links data from 2015-2016, Alamosa demonstrated 14% proficiency and it increased to 33% proficiency in the 2016-17 SY. This data indicates a 19% growth in home/native language instruction. The district's ACCESS proficiency levels for the 2016-2017 SY demonstrated Alamosa has a higher percentage of EL students scoring a Level 3 and above when compared to district wide proficiency.

Alamosa bilingual team members include Minerva Tiller, Saira Gurrola, Helen Garc?aCh?vez, Stephanie Lozoya, Mar?a Elena Orozco, Ana L?pez, Yadira Rivera and our parent liaison Sandra Estrada Casta??n.
