Noah Jerome Hurst

Dr. Noah Jerome Hurst died Aug. 19, 2012. He is survived by his wife, Mary W. Hurst; children, Barbara H. Buckner, Noah J. Hurst Jr. (Lisa), Laura L. Hurst; grandchildren Amber H. Rice (Bo), Kyle Buckner, Noah J. Hurst III; brother, Douglas E. Hurst (Francille); sisters, Nancy H. Jacobsen, Charlotte H. McFadden (Stan) and Jean H. Blair. He served Jesus many years as a Baptist Sunday School teacher and deacon. Dr. Hurst graduated from Glencoe High School (1950), Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University) (BME, 1955); University of Alabama (MSE, 1960); Nova Southeastern University (MP A, 1976, DPA, 1978). He was a licensed Professional Engineer. He served in the U.S. Army January 1951 to November 1952, 167th Infantry Division, 159th Field Artillery, Korea and was awarded the Bronze Star Service Medal. His work career as a mechanical engineer spanned 1955 to 2012. He worked in the fields of missiles and rockets research and development, space and military at Brown Engineering, Army Laboratories, SAFEGUARD, Strategic Missile Defense, Nichols Research Corp (Vice President), ELMCO Inc. (Board of Directors) and Westar Defense Group (Independent Consultant). He was an avid golfer. The memorial service will be today at noon at Berryhill Funeral Home, 2305 Memorial Parkway NW, Huntsville, Ala., with Brother David Blakeney officiating, with visitation one hour before. The graveside service will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Bridges fund at Farley Community Church, Huntsville; or the Alabama Sheriff's Youth Ranches.
