The program is free to qualifying participants with a focus on providing expanded academic enrichment opportunities such as:Tutorial services and homework assistance to help children meet state and local academic achievement standards in core subjects such as reading, mathematics, science and social studies.A broad array of additional services, programs and activities including youth development, violence prevention, fine arts, technology, recreation, physical education, health, wellness and nutrition programs, as well as educational programs that are designed to reinforce and complement the regular academic program. Our CIS-ACE program instills curiosity and excites learners to become even more resourceful so that they will continue to learn outside the normal school day. Offering families of students served by CIS-ACE opportunities for literacy, parenting and related development programs; exposure to civic and community service projects; and an opportunity to participate in their children’s academic and social development. Students recommended by school day staff for academic, behavior, or attendance issues, will be given highest priority for enrollment in the program. Space is limited, therefore not all students wishing to participate will qualify. ADMINSTRATION OF THE PROGRAMThe CIS-ACE program is a joint effort between Communities In Schools (CIS), Alvin ISD, Brazosport ISD, Pearland ISD, Columbia-Brazoria ISD, Galena Park ISD, Pasadena ISD and La Porte ISD. The program also collaborates with community based organizations, non-profit organizations, school personnel, parents and volunteers. Communities In Schools has the overall responsibility and management of the program at each individual campus and the program is not regulated by childcare licensing.HOURS OF OPERATIONThe CIS-ACE program operates Monday through Friday between the hours of 3:10- 6:10 pm. The program does not operate during school district holidays, teacher in-service days, or school closures due to inclement weather or other unforeseen emergency situations unless prior notice is given. ATTENDANCEThe CIS-ACE program is not a “drop-in” service, therefore, by enrolling your child in the program you will make a commitment that he or she will attend a minimum of 45 days in order to benefit fully from the program. It will be the responsibility of your child to leave his or her classroom at dismissal time and sign in with the CIS-ACE staff at the designated location. We will review the procedures with your child so that he or she fully understands the daily sign-in process. CIS-ACE staff will not be responsible for any student that has not signed in with the CIS-ACE staff as being present for the daily activities. If your child is absent for an extended time, the center Site Coordinator should be notified either verbally or by written notice from the parent or guardian. Excessive absenteeism is discouraged and can result in removal from the program. Early pick-up from the program is discouraged because it decreases the student’s ability to benefit from the full program activities. Students can be picked up at 5:00-5:15 pm, or at the end of program. For the safety of elementary-age students, parents, or their designee, must sign in the student out when picking them up prior to the end of program. REMOVAL FROM THE PROGRAMCIS-ACE has a zero tolerance policy for theft, fighting, inappropriate physical contact, or leaving the site without permission. Violation of these rules will result in removal from the program.A child may be suspended or removed from the CIS-ACE program due to violations of program rules and/or standards of conduct. Parents will be notified verbally or in writing when a suspension or removal from the program is eminent. A Standard of Conduct is included in this handbook and a list of Disciplinary Actions is located on page 5. Parents are encouraged to discuss these rules and consequences with each child. A child may be disciplined or removed from the CIS-ACE program if the child or their parent/guardian exhibits verbal abuse, harassment, physical abuse, or sexual harassment towards any other CIS-ACE student or staff member. MEDICAL EMERGENCYThere is no nurse on campus during program hours. Medication may be administered to a child while at CIS-ACE only with parental written consent.
