Title: Swat the MOUSE GameContent Area: Computer Programming with ALICE (comments, adding objects, sound, animation, and text and using parameters)Grade Level: 8Duration: 5 daysAssignments: Students will create a WORLD entitled Swat the Mouse Game using the ALICE software. Student will demonstrate knowledge of storyboarding, inserting objects, sounds, text, animation and using parameters. Warm-up Problems: Students will key the first 3-5 minutes of class on the website. They may select from any of the lessons other than those in the Beginner section.Lesson Objective (to be put on board): I will be able to create a Swat the Mouse Game that will allow players to try to swat the moving (object). Players will receive 1-point for each time the object is swatted. Prior to building my World, I will be able to create a storyboard. I will also be able to include comments, a minimum of 3 objects, sound, animation, and text. I will be able to check my document against the rubric to ensure I have followed all instructions. I will be able to save my World in my folder and also submitted in CANVAS for grading.STUDENT ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES:Warm up – Practice keying correctly using website.GUIDED PRACTICE:Ask the following questions: How many of you play video games? Have you ever considered creating your own video games? How about programming the computer to play games or do what you’d like it to do?Show the Click A Cow World created using the ALICE software.As a class, we will create a Practice World and add comments, objects, animation, sound, and text.Explain the process of design thinking (Storyboarding) and the steps that will be taken to make a WORLD that meets the design challenge goals. Students will be able to present their Practice World, critique to offer feedback/suggestions.INDEPENDENT PRACTICE:Introduce students to the rubric: Goal is that students will strive for higher quality products if they know how the project will be assessed. Students will independently create a storyboard about their Swat the ______ World.Create Swat the Object World without assistance from teacher, but may receive assistance from a classmate.Review completed assignment against rubric, save assignment, and submit to Canvas for grading.Closure/Student Reflections: Open forum: Likes/Dislikes; student areas of concerns; problems.
