HUNGRY GATOR ROLL

Making Greater Than and Less Than Equations

After reading and discussing the children's book, Gavin the Gator, children will work with a partner to play this fun game making "greater than" and "less than" equations.

Materials needed ...

Hungry Gator Roll recording sheet (single or double sided) Dice or number cubes

How to Play ...

You can make your own number cubes, use place value dice, or regular dice to play this game. You could even make number cards if you prefer a "quieter" game.

Before each roll, partners need to decide if the winner will be the one with the greater or smaller number.

Partner A will roll the dice and decide what number to record. For example, if they rolled a three and a five they could either record 35 or 53. Both children record the number on their recording sheet. Player B will roll the dice next and repeat the process.

After both children have rolled and recorded their number, they both need to write equations using their two numbers. If they agree with their equations they will continue play. The "winner" of that roll can circle their number if they want to record their win.
