6186170-164482HGS Requesting an Appeal – Summer 2020Students may request an appeal of their results from Heckmondwike Grammar School if they believe that an error has been made when submitting a centre assessment grade or if they have evidence of bias or that they were discriminated against; (See (See Ofqual document – What to do if you have concerns about your grade for further details)The process for making an appeal Complete the Appeals Request and Consent form and email to exams@heckgrammar.co.uk by 28th August 2020. The Data and Exams Team will check that the grade released by the exam board matches the grade submitted, complete that part of the form and forward the appeal on to the Subject Leader. An appeal may result in one of the following outcomes:- The original calculated grade is confirmed as correct, so there is no change to your grade. The original calculated grade is raised, so the final grade may be higher than the original grade you received. All requests for appeal of Centre Assessed Grade (CAG) will be reviewed by an Appeals Panel made up of Senior Leaders, Year Team staff and Exams Team staff. The Appeals Panel will consider whether the process for calculating the CAG was applied correctly to the candidate’s data produced over the duration of the two year course of study. (*Amended process following government changes and release of CAGs as lowest final grade) Reasons to support appealReasons to deny appealEvidence provided by student of bias Internal investigation shows that the grade and rank sent to the exam board matches that communicated.HGS believes that final grade was calculated incorrectly by exam board – due to an administrative error when submitting the Centre Assessed Grade to the exam board. (See Ofqual document – What to do if you have concerns about your grade)The student is appealing against the centre’s process for calculating the grade and/or rankAppealing the decision not to support the request. The student may appeal the Appeal Panel decision through the Head of Centre within 2 working days of the decision being communicated. Additional information must be provided by the student to counter the denial reason given by the Appeals Panel. The Head of Centre will review both sets of information and the decision reached by the Appeals Panel and provide a reply by 11th September 2020.Autumn Exams We would advise all candidates who did not attain the grade they believe they are capable of request sit their exams in autumn as the appeal may not be processed by the exam board until after the entry deadline.
