On 9 January 2017, Ms. Anne L. Richards was sworn in as The Auditor General of the U.S. Army at the U.S. Army Audit Agency’s Operations Center on Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Prior to assuming the duties of The Auditor General, Ms. Richards was the Assistant Inspector General for Inspections and Evaluations
with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office of the Inspector General.
Ms. Richards was appointed to the Senior Executive Service in 2005, and has 32 years of Federal Service. She began her career with the U.S. Army Audit Agency in 1984 before taking on her position in 1999 as the Director for External Audits and Special Projects with the U.S. Department of the Interior, Office of Inspector General. In 2000 she became the Regional Audit Manager for the Central Audit Region with the U.S. Department of the Interior. In 2005, she entered the Senior Executive Service as the Assistant Inspector General for Audits at the Department of the Interior. In 2007 Ms. Richards became the Assistant Inspector General for Audit at the Department of Homeland Security, Office of the Inspector General and she became the Assistant Inspector General for Inspections and Evaluations in 2015.
As the Army Auditor General, Ms. Richards is responsible for managing the worldwide operations of the U.S Army Audit Agency, a 526-person organization with a $70 million budget, which provides internal auditing services throughout the Department of the Army. The Agency provides objective and independent auditing services to help Army leaders make informed decisions, solve problems, use resources effectively and efficiently, satisfy statutory and fiduciary responsibilities, and prevent and detect fraud. The Agency has been recognized by the Partnership for Public Service as a top-5 Best Place to Work in the Federal Government subcomponent for 6 consecutive years (2010 through 2016).
