The Revelation Of Creation

The Revelation Of Creation

Genesis 1:1

Little Jacob, known for his tall tales, told a teacher one morning how he had caught 8,000 fish over the weekend. Determined to teach him a lesson, the teacher topped his tale by saying a 1,200-pound bear had torn the top off of her car that morning and was reaching in to grab her, when a two pound dog attacked the bear and killed it. "Yes," little Jacob nodded, "that was my dog. He's killed four bears so far this week."

As much as the Bible's account of creation might sound like some tall tale, especially to an unbeliever, it is anything but that. In fact, one mathematician estimated that the chances of Moses coming up with this story on his own or by accident was one chance in 31 sextillion (31 followed by 21 zeros).

This record is in truth the product of Divine Revelation. So let's notice:

1. THIS REVELATION OF CREATION MUST BE RECEIVED BY FAITH

(Heb 11:3) Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

2. THIS REVELATION OF CREATION IS REVEALED THROUGH FACTS

Summed up in the thought "GOD SAID!" His Word formed our World.

NOTICE THE CONDENSED VERSION OF CREATION GENESIS 1:1

1. The Era Of Chronology (time) Is Started in the beginning

2. The Existence Of The Creator Is Stated (not proven) God

3. The Epic Of Creation Is Summarized created the heavens and the earth

1. THE CHAOS ON CREATION Genesis 1:2

A. THE DISORDER (or DESOLATION) without form

tohuw, to'-hoo; from an unused root mean. to lie waste; a desolation (of surface), i.e. desert; fig. a worthless thing; adv. in vain:--confusion, empty place, without form, nothing, (thing of) nought, vain, vanity, waste, wilderness.

B. THE DEADNESS (or DESTITUTION) void

bohuw, bo-hoo; from an unused root (mean. to be empty); a vacuity, i.e. (superficially) an undistinguishable ruin:--emptiness, void.

When we consider the earth without form and void, methinks it is like the valley full of dead and dry bones. Can these live? Can this confused mass of matter be formed into a beautiful world? Yes, if a spirit of life from God enter into it, Ezekiel 37:9. (MATTHEW HENRY)

C. THE DARKNESS darkness was upon the face of the deep

2. THE COMMOTION ON CREATION Genesis 1:2

A. THE PICTURE OF THIS MOVEMENT

LIKE THE MOTHER HEN MOVES IN THE NEST

(Deu 32:11) As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings:

"FLUTTERETH" is the same word as "MOVED" IN GENESIS 1:2.

B. THE PARTNERSHIP IN THIS MOVEMENT OF GOD

C. THE PRAISE FOR THIS MOVEMENT OF GOD

(Psa 148:1-5)

3. THE CHARACTERISTICS OF CREATION

(Rev 4:11) Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

A. LOGIC (thus dealing with DISORDER) 1:6-10

B. LIFE (thus dealing with DEADNESS) 1:11-13,20-27

C. LIGHT (thus dealing with DARKNESS) 1:3-5, 14-19

Cf. James 1:17

Illustrate:

When Charles Simeon, the great evangelical scholar from Cambridge was on his deathbed, his biographer relates that at one point, "he looked around with one of his bright smiles and asked, 'What do you think especially gives me comfort at this time? The creation! Did Jehovah create the world or did I? I think He did; now if He made the world, He can sufficiently take care of me!'"

And let our make and place as men, remind us of our duty as Christians, always to keep heaven in our eye, and the earth under our feet. (MATTHEW HENRY)

A. THE MOVEMENT OF GOD

B. THE MESSAGE OF GOD Genesis 1:3-5

[DAY 1]

(GOD DEALS WITH THE DARKNESS OF THE PLANET.)

1. THE DEMAND OF LIGHT "LET THERE BE LIGHT" vs. 3

HE SAID, AND IT WAS. HE HAS NOT ONLY LEGISLATIVE POWER BUT ALSO EXECUTIVE POWER.

2. THE DIVISION OF LIGHT vs. 4

3. THE DESIGNATION OF LIGHT vs. 5

C. THE MAGNIFICENCE OF GOD

(Psa 148:1-5) Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the LORD from the heavens: praise him in the heights. {2} Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts. {3} Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light. {4} Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens. {5} Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created.

THE CONTENTS OF CREATION

(Rev 4:11) Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

A. THE HABITAT (or THE ABODE) Genesis 1:6-19

(GOD DEALT WITH THE DISORDER OF THE PLANET.)

[DAY 2] 1. THE ATMOSPHERE Genesis 1:6-8

Water is 773 times the weight of air, so that gives some idea of the power required to separate the waters from the waters. The annual precipitation, in the form of rain and snow that falls upon the earth is the equivalent of 186,000 cubic miles - enough to cover the entire earth to a depth of three feet. The supply of water above the earth is maintained by evaporation - the constant lifting of water from the earth into the atmosphere by the power of the sun.

[DAY 3] 2. THE LAND Genesis 1:9-10

3. THE SEAS

4. THE FOLIAGE Genesis 1:11-13

(GOD DEALS WITH THE DEADNESS OF THE PLANET.)

a. GRASS (From the simplest to the most complex.)

b. HERB YIELDING SEED

c. FRUIT TREE YIELDING FRUIT

[DAY 4] 5. THE CANOPY OF SPACE Genesis 1:8, 14-19

a. SUN

a1. THE DIMENSIONS OF THIS LIGHT

Notice here it said "THE GREATER LIGHT" and not the greatest light. Scientists say that the star ANTARES is so large that it could swallow up 64 million suns the size of ours; yet IT IS NOT THE GREATEST LIGHT.

(James 1:17) Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

a2. THE DIVISION OF THIS LIGHT

HE DIVIDED THE LIGHT FROM DARKNESS

(2 Cor 6:14) Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

b. MOON

c. STARS

[DAY 5]

B. THE HERDS (or THE ANIMALS) Genesis 1:20-25

1. FISH - SEA LIFE

2. FOWL - FLYING LIFE

[DAY 6] 3. FLOCKS - LAND ANIMALS

a. CATTLE

b. CREEPING THINGS (Reptiles & possibly Insects)

c. CREATURES (Beasts / Wild Animals)

Scientists have classified millions of different species of animals, including more than 800,000 different kinds of insects, 30,000 kinds of fish, 9,000 kinds of birds, 6,000 kinds of reptiles, 3,000 kinds of amphibians, and 5,000 kinds of mammals. (JOHN PHILLIPS)

GOD MADE THEM ALL!

C. THE HUMAN (or ADAM) Genesis 1:26-27

1. IN PERFECTION in our image

2. IN POWER let them have dominion

3. IN A PAIR created He them

D. THE HOME

THE COMPLETION OF CREATION GENESIS 2:1-3

Just as Christ declared the completion of redemption upon Calvary when He said "IT IS FINISHED", God declared the completion of creation in His rest.

THE CHARACTER OF CREATION Gen. 1:4, 10, 12, 21, 25, 31

(IF IT WAS SO GOOD, HOW DID IT GET SO BAD?)

THE CORRUPTION OF CREATION Genesis 3:

A. DOUBT Genesis 3:1-5

And truly, what else could the serpent do except lie? For as Jesus told the Jews:

(John 8:44) Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

B. DISOBEDIENCE

1. LISTENING (EVE LISTENED) Genesis 3:1-2

2. LOOKING (THE WOMAN SAW) Genesis 3:6

3. LUSTING (A TREE TO BE DESIRED) Gen 3:6

(Rom 6:23) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

C. DESTINY Genesis 3:7-19

1. THE BLUSH vs. 7-10

2. THE BLAME vs. 11-13

3. THE BRUISES vs. 14-19

a. SLITHERING FOR THE SERPENT

b. SORROW AND SUBJECTION FOR WOMAN

c. SWEAT FOR THE MAN

d. THE DEATH SENTENCE FOR MANKIND

(Rom 5:12) Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

JEREMIAH DESCRIBED THE SINFUL CONDITION OF ISRAEL IN HIS DAY LIKE THIS: (Jer 4:23) I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.

THE CONSOLATION OF CREATION Genesis 3:15

A. THE PROMISE OF A SON

(Not just any son, otherwise Eve's supposition that Cain was the one would have been valid.

(Isa 9:6) For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

(John 3:16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

B. THE PROMISE OF A SAVIOR

(Gal 4:4-5) But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, {5} To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

C. THE PROMISE OF A SACRIFICE

a. FOR SINNERS WHO NEED CONVERSION

(2 Cor 5:17) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

b. FOR SAINTS WHO NEED CLEANNESS

(Psa 51:10) Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
