Summary advice for parents/carers and learners

SQA Evidence - Assessment 2021

As there is no SQA exam diet this session, evidence based provisional results will be determined for all learners across all subjects and levels (N5, Higher and Advanced Higher) within subjects. These will be submitted to the SQA following department, school and local authority quality assurance

processes.

When our young people return to school following the Easter break, teaching staff will concentrate on teaching & learning and consolidation of previous learning to prepare learners for assessments. Learners will be assessed within class time. Assessments will cover all key aspects of learning within the course but will be `chunked' into short assessments, rather than learners sitting a traditional full exam paper type assessment. Assessment will only take place following a period of time to allow consolidation of learning. Teaching staff will advise learners on the scheduling of assessments. The information in this booklet gives an outline of learner assessment within senior phase (S4 ? S6) for

this session.

I ask you to encourage your child to engage fully with the teaching and learning programme and to ensure that they are completing normal revision of their learning ? as they would if they were preparing for a normal exam diet in May.

I want to reassure you that we are well underway in terms of our assessment strategy and planning to support the production of evidence based provisional results for our senior phase learners.

National 5 Computing Science 1. Assignment Section 1 ? a practical assessment covering the Software Design and Development unit. This will be completed in class time and will take approximately 4 hours. 2. Assignment Section 2 ? a practical assessment covering the Database Design and Development unit. This will be completed in class time and will take approximately 2 hours. 3. Question Paper Section 1 ? a question paper covering the Software Design and Development and Computer Systems units. This will be completed in class time and will take approximately 1 hour, spread over two periods. 4. Question Paper Section 2 ? a question paper covering the Database Design and Development unit. This will be completed in class time and will take approximately 30 minutes.

Higher Computing Science 1. Assignment Section 1 ? a practical assessment covering the Software Design and Development unit. This will be completed in class time and will take approximately 4 hours. 2. Assignment Section 2 ? a practical assessment covering the Database Design and Development unit. This will be completed in class time and will take approximately 2 hours. 3. Question Paper Section 1 ? a question paper covering the Software Design and Development and Computer Systems units. This will be completed in class time and will take approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, spread over two periods. 4. Question Paper Section 2 ? a question paper covering the Database Design and Development unit. This will be completed in class time and will take approximately 45 minutes.

Advanced Higher Computing Science 1. Project ? this has been completed by all pupils already. 2. Question Paper Section 1 ? a question paper including short response questions on a range of topics and an extended response question. 3. Question Paper Section 2 ? a question paper including extended response questions covering Software Design and Development, Database Design and Development and Web Design and Development.

Business Management

National 5 Business Management 1. Paper Section 1 ? a question paper comprising of two case studies and related questions. The questions sample content from all five areas of the course. This will be completed in class time and will take approximately one hour, split across two periods. 2. Paper Section 2 ? a questions paper comprising of stand-alone questions sampling content from all 5 areas of the course. This will be completed in class time and will take approximately one hour, split across two periods.

Higher Business Management 1. Paper Section 1 ? a question paper comprising of a case studies and related questions. The questions sample content from all five areas of the course. This will be completed in class time and will take one hour and five minutes, split across two periods. 2. Paper Section 2 ? a questions paper comprising of stand-alone questions sampling content from all 5 areas of the course. This will be completed in class time and will take one hour and forty five minutes, split across two periods.

Administration & IT

National 5 Admin & IT 1. Paper 1 ? a practical based assessment covering spreadsheets and theory. This will be completed in class time and will take 1 hour and 30 minutes over two periods. 2. Assignment ? this is a practical assessment covering all presentations, word processing, internet searches, email, electronic diary, desktop publishing and theory. This assessment will be completed in three hours over 4 periods in class time.

Higher Admin & IT 1. Assignment ? this is a practical assessment covering presentations, word processing, spreadsheets, internet searches, email and electronic diary. This will be completed in class time and will take 1 hour and 30 minutes over 2 periods. 2. Question Paper ? a question paper covering all theory topics. This will be completed in class time and will take 1 hour and 30 minutes.
