The Nielson Group provides background checking services through a 3rd party, Argus Search Inc. By providing this service, you save time and benefit from a fast, simple one-stop shopping experience so you can concentrate on more important work. You just fax the release form to The Nielson Group and we’ll take care of the rest. However, you can sign up with Argus directly at any time by going to argus-.

We add a single $15 administrative fee for each applicant you submit for background checking. This fee is in addition to fees as outlined below or found on the Argus site which are the same fees charged to The Nielson Group. You will be invoiced monthly along with any assessment usage. We will list the reports generated with a total fee for each applicant. Submitting additional requests on the same applicant will result in an additional administrative fee of $15. There are no limits to the number of reports per request.

Argus Search offers two Criminal databases:  You have the choice of using either on a national or state level:  

NBD Cops National Criminal or NBD State Criminal

Original National Criminal Database or Original State Criminal Database

     Compare Criminal Coverage (above) vs. NBD COPS Criminal Coverage (below)

The NBD National Criminal database covers more states, and, in some instances, different states than the regular National Database.  Both of these databases are very thorough. Using them should depend on where the applicant has lived on which database you may want to choose.  We would recommend the NBD be your first choice, should your search require a state both databases offer, as during our comparison testing, it seemed to be more extensive in detail. 

Detail in reading the reports that may be helpful:

Ordering SSN and Criminal: If there is a No Hit for a criminal reports it means there are no criminal records for this person. If there is a NO Hit for an SSN, it means the SSN doesn't exist, and therefore, the person doesn't exist under this SSN. It's always a good idea to perform the SSN search first, if it returns qualified information than proceed to the Criminal. If it returns a NO Hit, then don't bother doing the Criminal as it won't have any verification either.
